Man, Stewart was just crushing the field. I think it sucks that he got beat by Edwards, and I'm a Ford guy.
|
I think it's safe to say, the win came down to strategy on the final stop:
4 Tires vs. 2 Tires Carl proved two tires work -- And took advantage of it. |

My first thought, when I heard this was the four tires would give Tony the added advantage. However, it proved to work against him. Quote:

right... Tony showed the top drivers the way -- 2 is better than 4... I didn't realize that on the pit stop before the last that Tony took two. The two things that I remember hearing on the last stop, drivers were taking two and Tony four.
i forgot what the acronym "FYP" means... lol |

Looks like Good Year brought the powder tires from Indianopolis. The tires are leaving powder on the track instead of rubber. Unbelievable.
Twitter: @jeff_gluck Jeff Gluck The tires didn't lay enough rubber down on the track, which Goodyear officials can't explain. That's prompted the change. http://planetsmilies.net/happy-smiley-8516.gif @jeff_gluck Jeff Gluck New tires are "en route." Cup teams will be able to practice on them; Nationwide won't. Nwide will qualify and start race on old tires. @nateryan Nate Ryan Though track didn't take on rubber, Goodyear and #nascar officials say tire problems at Bristol aren't similar to Indianapolis 3 years ago. @nateryan Nate Ryan Kurt Busch says "the racetrack isn't getting darker. Tires almost turning into powder, similar to what happened at Indianapolis." #nascar @bobpockrass Bob Pockrass The tires used here last year were able to go 130-140 laps - a fuel run. The tires are coming from a warehouse in Charlotte. #nascar @jim_utter Jim Utter New tire was to address #NASCAR teams' concerns last fall the track was rubbering up too quickly, becoming too slick @bobpockrass Bob Pockrass Nationwide teams will qualify Saturday on the same tire used today. I remember seeing the video of that wreck as well as the pieces of the wreckage in the museum at Talladega. It's amazing that he walked away from that.
