Story of the day is feeding frenzy on hold. GMs still studying new rules, focus on streamlining own roster and making cap space...

The Franchise 07-26-2011 01:40 PM

Are Gary Brackett and Jason Whitlock brothers?

Buccaneers are offering former Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha a contract reported as a 4yr/$58.5M contract with $22M Guaranteed.

And someone here thought $15M/per was ridiculous.

He'll match or beat Revis' deal - the question is by how much.

Hard to believe. What have GMs been doing all thsi time? They should have had contingencies in place fo weeks now. if the Cap is $110MM then we do this. If it's $115MM then we do that. If it's $120MM then this. etc.

WTF? :spock:

I really, seriously doubt that Bill Belichick or Scott Pioli are going "hrmm, $120MM hunh. Ok, let's take a look and start thinking about what we're going to do here. That's ridiculous.

If GM's are doing that, they'll be left behind.

No way that all 32 are sitting on their hands.

Funny how the media and fan bases think versus the NFL franchises...

its like 180 degrees in the opposite direction.

Don't think this makes sense. Their current cap status is $10MM over. They CANNOT make any offer to any FA until Friday or Saturday, whatever it is. They can discuss offers with players, however. My assumption is that they've reached out to Cromartie, or even reached agreemnet with him, and the Raiders will cut enough players (or restructure) to get under the cap by enough to sign him.

Besides, they also need to generate like $7MM in room just to sign their draft picks.

Found this...

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/4...-roster-bubble

Quote:

We now have a clearer picture of what the new C.B.A. will be and it looks good for the Raiders. The Raiders will actually be in the running for Nnamdi Asomugha because "dead money" won't count toward the salary cap.

On NFL Network, Jason LaCanfora said, "Teams will have to spend at least 90 percent of the cap in cash and won't be able to play with dead money as they have in the past."

So that leaves the Raiders at $103.2 million in players' salaries as of now.

The salary cap is set at $120 million with a $3 million exemption to sign one player. But to bring back Asomugha, there will still have to be some cuts to make room to bring in additional help.

Therefore, the Raiders will have their healthy share of players on the roster bubble.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Lions are one of the teams that may be in pursuit of free agent OG Robert Gallery.

Raiders will go back to being a 6 win team.
