If Haley had a franchise QB we would all be sucking him off.

That's not a prevent defense. Prevent defenses fall apart because you're spreading your defense so widely that you leave a ton of enormous soft spots in the coverage. When you're keeping the entire defense up to guard 20-yard territory, with no respect to anything 20+ (and limited respect for anything 10-20 yards), your wall gets very tight.

You have corners playing one-on-one with relatively little help over the top. That leaves a lot of defenders basically playing a zone with the ability to spy out the backfield.

Charles is the prime mover on offense, no question, but reasonably competent coaching should be able to do something. Anything.

Huard? Trash. And we managed to get production. Thigpen? Trash. And we managed to get production.

That was clearly an issue with conditioning and preparedness, a mistake we've all acknowledged Haley made. In the Detroit game, we started the game on the right track offensively until Charles got hurt.

If a team is sitting back on the pass, sitting back on the run, and not blitzing the QB they are playing prevent defense.

Huard wasn't trash. With protection he threw a pretty accurate ball and he could at least make most of the throws. An ideal backup.

Palko is literally physically limited from throwing the ball over 20 yards without enormous arc. And he is literally physically limited from throwing the ball hard enough to make any of the inside throws.

The offense was moving ball down the field against the Lions before Charles went out.

I'm also fairly sure that Charles got fewer than 5 carries in the preseason.

I also have acknowledged the fact that Haley's preseason program was a failure, which had this team unprepared to start the season.

Keep the bar high.

Charles had like 2 touches against the Lions before going down. He broke one play right after McCluster and then ran for 3 yards when he tore his ACL. I believe that was on the 2nd possession, after a punt.

Huard was an adequate QB.

Palko is trash.

Huard is better than Palko by a mile. That's not complimenting Huard. That's just commenting on how bad Palko is.

Got any ideas?

Remember, you have a weak armed inaccurate QB, with some athletic ability, but whose passing gets worse when he's moving.

You also have the worst RT in the game, an adequate, at best, O-Line blocking for an over the hill RB who looks like he's running in mud, a power RB with limited talent, and a midget who has perfected the pirroette, which fools no one.

What do you do?

Hammock Parties 12-11-2011 10:12 PM

Deez seems to have a very black and white view of QBs.

On the right team Huard could go 9-7 every year!

O.city 12-11-2011 10:12 PM

He tore it on the first possession. I think.

When he was on the field, the defense had to account for him, even though he isn't touching the ball on every play.
