It's pretty clear that Tyreek was aggressively used as a decoy early in this game. My sense is, he was sent on the pattern with instructions to operate as a decoy, probably to draw the FS, which he got at least a strong lean out of him [though Kelce contributed to that as well]. The RB out of the backfield running to the top of the screen was probably designed to do a more aggressive fly pattern, and Alex ranged right to set up for a pass over the man coverage, without the FS in danger of ranging over.

Should we have an offensive system where Tyreek AND Smith instinctively know that when he's coming that wide open to ditch the decoy pretense and go with it? Perhaps.

Was the RB wrong to sit down as long as he did under the coverage before running fly? He's opening wide, as wide as Reek on the other side, when Smith runs out of real estate.

Was the play that resulted due to Smith being locked in to Reek being a decoy, or was it Smith being convinced that Reek would not be ready for a pass since he went out as a decoy? Who knows.

But I don't think it was a brain fart or a panic. Smith was designed to roll out right. Only the spy was tracking him down too fast, and the RB ran past coverage too late.

The RB sat down because that was probably his route. He took off when Smith scrambled.

So you're saying that Alex Smith isn't a 4 time Super Bowl winning QB?

Interesting.

If Smith actually were Rodgers, I can totally see everything in that play transpiring the same as it did, except Rodgers would have floated a touch pass over the coverage to the RB breaking free.

I'm not saying there weren't mistakes made, just that the mistakes weren't necessarily Alex missing how open Tyreek was, or him panicking and improvising a scramble that wasn't by design.

Ftr I think the mistakes made were the ones you mentioned.

I like that this franchise traded a 1st round pick for Trent Green instead of using it on Drew Brees. And it also seems they F'd up trading 2 2nd round picks instead of using one on Derek Carr.

But those couple seasons where we lost a playoff game sure were awesome.

I'm saying that you will never see ONE. SINGLE. PLAY. like that from Alex Smith as a Kansas City Chief.

Nick Foles would have definitely made that throw. Albert Wilson isn't even OPEN when he lets this loose.

And here's a play with a free rusher right in Foles breadbasket. 49 yards of PURE BALLS.

You want a guy to make that throw to Ty?

HE'S ON THE ROSTER.

No ****ing way, especially when he is looking right at it.

After he runs to his right, yes. But before that he was straight on.

I don't think he saw Hill. He stares at Maclin at the snap...

Foles may not be much, but he doesn't play like a bitch.

Good on him.

You are the most pathetic human being that I've ever encountered in my entire life.

You have zero shame, zero conscience and zero life.

Un. ****ing. Real.
