Sergio dropping eagle bombs on em

Then begging for the second shot on the next hole. Going to be tuff to catch Rory

WilliamTheIrish 07-20-2014 09:49 AM

How many putters/grips/stances has Sergio been through over the last decade. I'd bet 10 different putters and grips.

LMAO Sergio off the grandstand onto the edge of the green. What a lucky bounce.

Sounds like some shot I'd pull out of my ass at Hodge Park. Minus the grandstand.

I didn't realize it was him until they showed his name

Rory missed two putts short. Ouch

I find myself pulling for Sergio. Something about Rory that rubs me a little in the wrong way. Maybe it's just the press sucking him off.

I feel that way about Sergio. He's always been such a Europussy. Spitting in the cup, crying about losing the British Open to Padraig Harrington. He's forevere been something of a Spanish bitch.

Sergio said that two years ago after the Masters.

Yeah I was never a real Sergio fan but Fowlers to far back.

Nice shot Sergio!

And Sergio craps out in the bunker. Killer.

Awwww ****

I was thinking it might have been his time. He had a couple putts not go in that were very close and then shit in the bunker

WilliamTheIrish 07-20-2014 10:32 AM

If Sergio follows his historical form, he'll lay down from this point forward and blame the golf gods for his failure.

TribalElder 07-20-2014 10:34 AM

Im surprised he didn't lip out the bogey putt LMAO

'Hamas' Jenkins 07-20-2014 10:37 AM

McIlroy has a certain prickish quality in the way that he carries himself that is certainly off-putting.

One of the things that bothers me about him is his mental game. He's immensely talented, but he can't win a tournament unless he is playing on his A game. He doesn't have any grind in him. He either assaults a course and blows away the field or withers.

He's not the kind of player who can go head to head with someone if he's playing at a B level.

KC_Connection 07-20-2014 10:43 AM

Fortunately for him, his A level is very high and he's been able to bring it out at the right times in his career.

And that's what golf comes down to a lot of times--luck.

Look at Martin Kaymer. Played absolutely out of his skull at the US Open and then weeks later tosses up a 79 on the easiest Open course in memory.

FWIW, this is a shit venue. The R&A should replace Hoylake with Kingsbarns, which might be the most beautiful course in Scotland.

Hard to call it luck when he's done it 3 times now by the age of 25. He has a proficiency for playing well in big tournaments.

He has a proficiency for playing well in a certain type of major. It's not a coincidence that all his majors have come in conditions with abnormally soft greens and very little to no wind.

He's an undoubtedly great player, but he doesn't have the kind of game that will translate on all types of courses.

'Hamas' Jenkins 07-20-2014 02:21 PM

If you want a comparison for McIlroy here it is: at this point in his career, he's a young Nadal, a guy that is nearly unbeatable when playing at top level on a certain type of track. He hasn't yet matured into what Nadal became in subsequent years.

I was really pulling for Sergio as well. He seems like he'd be a good dude to play a round with and then shoot some bull with afterward. Plus, he's been through a lot in his career.

Agree that Rory seems a little uppity but I don't hold that against him. I admire great golf and his game is flawless, absolutely flawless. My son asked me if I think he'll ever win the masters and complete the grand slam and I said yes, I think it's more a matter of when than if. He's that good and he's only 25. Heck, I've got shoes older than that.

Congrats to Rory.

The last thing I did today at the golf course was hit 15-20 2 irons in a row. I hit them off a low tee and for the most part I hit them pretty well. The last one I hit I decided I'd hit a fade. I'm pretty much a right to left player these days but I hit it perfect. It was like a walk off homerun.
Good physical practice hitting 2 irons.

Pretty good comparison. Nadal took a while to get good on hard/grass courts, but still was completely dominant on his one surface (and amazingly continues to be a decade later). Like Nadal, I think McIlroy has the talent to go down as one of his sport's all-time greats, but he still has to develop in a few areas before he gets there.

Today was also the first time he's really had to deal with any final round back nine pressure to win a major, so that's something that will help in the future.

philfree 07-29-2014 10:18 PM

I played the next leg of my tour past Sunday and I played like a wuss. I played Redfield GC in Eugene, MO. I'd never played it before and it was a windy day so the going was tough for me. I shot a big fat 84. I didn't hit enough greens and I putted poorly. I had a lateral hazard and an OB. All tat is the result of a lack of confidence that I woke up with one day here while back. I played decent and won a match and another tournament and then I went to sleep. When I woke up I was so full of self doubt and suddenly I suck.

Fickle ****ing game:)

Reerun_KC 07-29-2014 11:05 PM

Played Thames river valley GC in London Ontario last week, it was built in 1924. Shot an 85 not bad for first time playing that course.

First of two posts. This one is a gossip post:

Dustin Johnson is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the tour. Supposedly the guy has a pretty bad cocaine habit (which may have been the real reason he took time off for a back injury a few years back), and Gretzky's daughter isn't considered the greatest of influences upon him.

Furthermore, something I didn't know is that he was involved in stealing a handgun and buying ammunition for it at Wal-Mart as a teen. Said gun was used in an execution style murder a few days later. Johnson's prints were on the gun, but in exchange for his testimony, all charges against him were dropped and the accused (friend's brother) was convicted and is serving life.

Also, apparently he was slinging blow in high school.

Yikes.

DJ has never been the Golden Child. His rep preceded him.

As for this latest turn, I doubt there are any surprises. John Daly is about to roll over the senior tour, and there will be a bad boy vacuum. DJ fills the bill. Too bad, though... I kind of like him.

'Hamas' Jenkins 07-31-2014 10:05 PM

Second of two: in the midst of a two year process to find out what in the **** has been wrong with my swing I've finally figured it out:

I **** goats.

Namely, early extension. The sensation of keeping the angle between the spine and hips and not clearing up and out is so foreign to me that I'm feeling muscles in my back I haven't felt in years. It's going to take a while to strengthen them back up. Biggest issue at this point is making sure that I turn my hips enough in the backswing so that they don't stall and force me to early extend when I get stuck. That, and fatigue.

It's certainly untapped a lot of hidden power that I'd previously lost.

And if you want something really ****ing crazy...

According to Barstool Sports and their rumor mill, Rory called off his engagement because he was banging another chick on a glass table and it shattered, cutting her up pretty badly and giving him a bunch of scratches. Supposedly, that's why he wore long sleeves during the BMW the next week. I guess he realized he couldn't be banging whores on the side without consequences.

No sport has gotten a bigger pass on the impropriety of their players more than golf. The history of the tour is essentially a history of barnstorming, alcoholic womanizers.

Please. These women are major jock sniffers. You can go out on the Web.com tournaments and see young chicks in sundresses following the players around. They view them as future meal tickets. And any "marriage" you break up wasn't a real marriage anyway if the woman is looking to drop her clothes off and spread her legs for another man. Those aren't wives, they're called whores.

I dunno, Donald is a handsome guy with a Northwestern education and millions in the bank. If he can't pull nobody can. Amy Mickelson & Amanda Duf are legit wives who married their guys early. But skeezers like Mrs Mahan and Elin Nordegren were nothing but sniffers and gold diggers.

This is a timely discussion as one guy in our golfing foursome is dealing with his wife's affair. With a guy at their church to top it off. Like the DJ and Arnie stories, the guy is talking about the other man constantly and what a prick he was. No matter how often we tie it back to his own wife's behavior, it goes right back to the "other man".

Men can't deal with their wives cheating and it's easier to blame it on a devious poon-hound. Because no man wants to admit there's something his own wife found lacking in himself.

This guy even went so far as to say he wants to keep his marriage alive because he doesn't want his daughters to think badly of their mother. Worried about the mother's reputation at a time like this is the last thing I'd be thinking. Insanity.

I know everyone hates Jim Rome, but he says it best with "You don't know these guys."

I'm still kinda floored that Peyton Manning is semi-notorious for banging chicks in every NFL city and his wife tacitly approving of said shenanigans.
