Data took over the Enterprise all by himself several times.

Spock is ****ed.

The logical thing for him to do would be to flee.

And yet he had to beg Picard to be put into command of a vessel in an emergency situation, where his interpersonal skills were shown to be lacking.

Being a Captain isn't about raw computational speed, neither is actual intelligence. Spock's intuition, his humanity even, trumps Data every time. Data is a great supporting character. Spock on the other hand is one of the foundations of the franchise for very good reasons.

Logically

That's where you are wrong again. Spock actively fights his humanity, while Data pines for "his" even though he knows he'll never attain it. The glory is the struggle, and the reason why Data is more "human" than Spock ever will be.

Picard then Kirk...both excellent in their own ways.

Captain Solo, bitches.

blaise 05-22-2013 08:20 AM

Picard gets points deducted for having Whoopi Goldberg on board.

He's also British while Kirk bleeds red, white and blue.

The best part of the Spock v. Data debate is that neither one of them would give a shit. :D

Incorrect. Spock fights to control his humanity as we all do. Spock represents the best of what it is to be human. Mind, heart and spirit. Data is just our generation's version of the Pinocchio story that never quite turns into a real boy. It's sad really. Data is a pathetic character in comparison.

Tasha Yar thought Data was real enough. And by God, listo, if he's good enough for Tasha Yar, then he's good enough for you.
