Uhhh, HELLO NEWBS!

Cage's best flick was obviously CON AIR!

Ceej 06-14-2013 12:59 PM

I've never walked out of a theater.

But, I couldn't finish Royal Tennenbaums, or Hunger Games.

I didn't care for it. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite. And goddamn, Malin Akerman is alleyway-porno bad as an actress.

I finally watched the Hunger Games recently. I didn't think it was a bad movie, but I found the subject matter (children murdering other children for sport) to be very disturbing. Which is the point, I guess, but still it was pretty offensive. I'm very surprised by the amount of teenie-bobber types who get all gushy over it.

You liked Tango and Cash, but didn't like Watchmen?

Dude.....

I loved it. The problem is that people went in expecting some sort of Batman or Superman-type hero story, and it was the exact opposite; it was an anti-hero story.

I don't know why so many people hate on Nic Cage. He is what he is: one of those actors who doesn't play roles, just plays himself. Are his movies Oscar-worthy? No. But they're always fun. "National Treasure", "Con Air", "The Rock", "Raising Arizona", etc.,.

That movie was dreadful.

I like The Royal Tenenbaums a lot, but am not surprised that it has been mentioned a couple times. It took me a few tries to get through it and eventually it grew on me. I like Wes Anderson movies, particularly Bottle Rocket, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and TRT, but I literally can't make it through The Darjeeling Limited (and I've tried 7-8 times) and I really don't care for The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I straight up thought he did well in Raising Arizona. Thought he was funny.

I like those first three. Never saw Raising Arizona. Thought he was good in Leaving Las Vegas. Had no problem with City of Angels though it's not really my style of movie even for a chick flick. I like him less in his more recent stuff -- Season of the Witch and Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Generally I like him though I agree he doesn't have great range. He's better than Costner or (God forbid) Keanu Reeves, both of whom are far, far worse.

That movie makes me angry to this day. One of the great American novels of the latter half of the century and they turn out this piece of crap? WTF? Hulk smash.

Raising Arizona is a classic. Picture the vibe of O Brother Where Art Thou and The Big Lebowski, set in mid-80s, white trash Arizona. So many funny turns of
phrase, so many humorous situations.

Coen Brothers wrote the fact that Holly Hunter was barren as 'the doctor explained that her insides was a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase.'

So you're more of a Nic Cage protector. . . .?

Seriously though, Cage is an actor capable of great work who often churns out some batshit cray-cray performances. He chases paychecks and that results in a lot of scenery chewing that doesn't make a lot of sense.

I didn't want to watch it but was watching movies with this chick and she made me sit through 20 minutes of Disaster Movie (Exactly what it was). I could not unsee what I saw in that brief time. Its taken 4 years to completely forget that actual movie, but the memory of being forced to watch it is still strong. :(

You got that right, Baby Lee.

This is one of the funniest movie characters of all time, imo:
