If I had to compare Amarillo to someplace, it would be Wichita KS. Not much to write home about, not a lot of excitement but a reasonable place to live if you don't mind flat. Buy a house with a basement or tornado shelter and if the sirens go off - get below ground. Good Mexican food, not as good as Santa Fe but real do-able. It will be a lot hotter in summer than you're used to. A lot hotter. Get good AC, one way or another. I found living in Texas - I didn't like the tapwater (varies from town to town) but be prepared buy a filter or something if it's an issue. Your NJ accent will make everyone know you're 'not from around here' - eh, Texans are pretty friendly and will point you in the right direction if you ask nicely. I liked the people down there - just didn't like the weather in Houston so when I got the chance to transfer back to KC I jumped on it.

Amarillo is certainly flat but does have one site that's cool.

Palo Duro Canyon, the Grand Canyon of Texas.

Great Canyon to hike around.

Amarillo is underrated, IMO. Even in the hot of the summer, it's dry and the evenings feature a strangely pleasant and cool breeze.

Glad you're still enjoying the Republic of Texas...and the Keller area, of course.

We can agree that Californians do destroy everywhere they go. We never belonged there however and can't stand leftist BS. Coming here was like going back 30 years in time. WE have made more friends who will do absolutely anything for us since we have been here. It was a perfect fit for us.

Anybody here ever been to Amarillo TX?

I was driving through the Texas panhandle near Amarillo with my then girlfriend and her 3 year old in a rented RV on our way west (no one goes to Amarillo except to get somewhere else) when a highway patrolman pulled me over. He asked me to get in his car, with his partner in the seat behind me, and questioned me about drugs. The Florida plates on the RV probably didn’t help… at one point he pointed up in the sky and said “there’s my backup”. There were two DEA helicopters hovering above. He eventually let me go.

Next time I’m on I-40 going west I’m gonna detour around Texas.

So were you able to deliver the RV load of drugs?
