Oh sweet!

Book Richardson is Miller's east coast recruiting assistant. He was previously head of NY Gauchos, and coached... wait for it...

Lincoln High’s sensational 6-5 rising junior Lance Stephenson continues to make a case for himself as the best player in his class. Stephenson, playing for Book Richardson of the Gauchos, scored 24 points as the Red team defeated the Blue, 137-121, to improve its record to 2-0 in USA basketball’s Youth Festival at Colorado Springs.

The non-con is really what hurt them this year, so any help they can get would be good.

Calipari knows all about leaving for worse situations just for the sake of ESPN stroking you off more...

So instead, RC is going broken arrow and meeting with Leonard ****ing Hamilton. Jesus Christ.

And I do not want to EVER put out anything that would hurt my beloved school. But I don't think this will. There has been so much garbage printed about this search that was completely wrong, that whether this is for real or not, it certainly can't do any further damage, so here goes.

We are now in serious talks with Avery Johnson. Not preliminary, not inquiry. Serious. It may or may not happen, because these things are always touchy and complicated, but we are making a hard run at him now. The good guys are determined to make this work, if there is any way at all.

The main objective is to get the best coach available who wants to be here. The next objective is to get the deal done with the next coach by Wednesday or Thursday, if possible, so he is in place before the national signing period starts.

If something goes wrong with the possibility of Avery Johnson, our next target will be Reggie Theus. Reggie has HIGH interest in the job, or at the very least, has given that impression to the Memphis side.

I have heard not one whisper about Billy Gillispie. I have heard nothing about Derek Kellogg. That is all. Just remember, always be skeptical of what anyone who is not in the room says, including me. But if all this is untrue, at least the perpetrators have all gotten their story straight. I imagine before long, we will all know the truth.

Exact same thing at Arizona, I'll see what I can find out about the *why* of taking Reggie off the board entirely.

You know what's funny is that Isaiah Thomas tried to get in on the Arizona job. Put aside the sexual harassment and potential suicide attempts (err... accidental sleeping pill OD) and I could see that.

I'd rather have Avery Johnson though, and he'd be a great fit in Memphis.

Xavier University men’s basketball coach Sean Miller has accepted the head coaching job at the University of Arizona, according to a report in Yahoo! Sports.

According to the story, Miller first turned down the job, then reconsidered and told Xavier Athletic Director Mike Bobinski that’s he’s leaving the Cincinnati school. Xavier did not comment for the story.

Over his five seasons at Xavier, Miller led the team of the Catholic liberal arts college to a 120-47 record. In the NCAA men’s tournament this year, the team made it to the “Elite Eight”before falling to the University of Pittsburgh, 60-55.

The Arizona Wildcats have played in 25 consecutive NCAA tournaments, according to the story. The team also made the Elite Eight this year, where it lost to the University of Louisville, 103-64.

Longtime Arizona coach Lute Olson retired in October, and the team has been led by interim coach Russ Pennell.

What was the source stating Memphis and Avery Johnson were in serious talks? I find that hard to believe. But I guess anything is possible?

Now everyone's saying Pastner.

Of course, that may just be because Megan Calipari's Facebook said it was going to be Pastner, so...

It's Josh!

Yeah!

Memphis promotes assistant Pastner to coach, replacing Calipari

DETROIT -- Josh Pastner will be introduced as the next Memphis coach, a source close to the program told CBSSports.com on Monday.

An news conference is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.

Pastner is known as an elite recruiter from his time at Arizona, where he played for and assisted Lute Olson before joining John Calipari's staff last offseason. This is his first head coaching job.

Don't you guys go firing Miller anytime soon, okay?

Unless Miller goes to Pitt some day, I have a hard time seeing Pastner back at Arizona. He'll be 100% Memphis Tiger from this day forward. He's a hell of a great guy. I'll be interested to see if he can keep/land any of those big recruits without the Lute/Cal name behind him.

I'll be root for you guys now!

(see how it all works out well in the end.)

:D

Ultra Peanut 04-06-2009 03:50 PM

I really hope we can at least keep Robic to be his top assistant. I have no questions about Pastner's recruiting ability, or really even his coaching chops. The guy is just ridiculously super-competent.

This isn't a "wow" outside of Tucson and Memphis, maybe, but I really like the hire.

KevB 04-06-2009 03:53 PM

I'm perfectly happy with this decision, once they struck out with a few of the big names. The only other guy that had interested me who was left was Gillispie, because of a successful track record. I'm hoping Pastner is more Roy Williams than Quinn Snyder.
