It wouldn't be nearly as wild as pretty much every other country in the tournament.... But it would be a lot more wild than it would have been if we had won it in 1998 or 2002 (where we finished in the top 8 btw).

ESPN is really starting to embrace soccer. Have you noticed that every "Top 10 Plays" in the past year has had a soccer highlight? It wasn't that way a few years ago. They realize that it's a burgeoning market in our country.

Can you point to a specific statement in my post that is incorrect or is vague name calling stemming from a case of butt hurt more your thing?

But there's only one winner, so yeah, if it's US vs. the field, I'll take the field.

i cant wait and i am going to be rooting for USA and MExico as i am Mexican- American, but i just dont see it.

I know the punchers chance thing and all, and i would love nothing more for them to win the WC hell, either team, but i dont think we are a top tier team yet. Its getting better no doubt.

I wish the USA had more interest in Soccer though, i really do. World Cup is some fun shit to watch.

One of the funnest competitions to watch, right up there with March Madness. In no other event do players give 110% the whole time like they do in the WC.

It's pretty much every soccer player's dream to be called up to the national squad and it's the highest honor and the highest form of recognition (especially if you're one of the powerhouse countries).

Country pride on the line = fun as hell to watch. This isn't a bunch of Home Depot amateurs competing either, these are the best of the best professionals in the world.

All of the statements in the first post I quoted are inaccurate. My "butt" is not "hurt" at all. You actually ARE a moron, I'm not calling you a name. Just letting you know why it is you feel the way you do.

Let's see...

The US never has a chance to win the tournament.

Theoretically this is incorrect but come on, you know what I mean. Don't get your shiny little shorts in a bunch

A very small percentage of Americans know or care if we even have a team in the cup.

An unassailable fact based on detailed opinion polls, the recent US census and most importantly the fact that I think so.. You won't wave one of those nasty yellow cards at me for this will you? God please not that.

The US may as well not be in the tournament.

While this is obviously the majority opinion here in America I think I will withdraw the statement. The US should be in the Nut Cup so all of our illegal residents can have something to cheer for in their newly adopted/kidnapped country. Oh, and for the 67 natural born US citizens that care whether the US plays in this thing or not.

The blinders are firmly ON.

So I was watching the Dan Patrick Show this AM on DTV and caught the tail end of them talking about the official ball design.

Apparently, the players are pissed because it has some grooves on it or something that makes it knuckle, and not roll/act true in flight.

Can one of you soccer-heads explain this further?

Is this going to be a legit issue?

A lot of people seem to be bitching about it lately.

Normally, the goalies are the only people to whine when there is a new ball because the newest ball technology always favors the offense.

However, this year there are apparently more field players that are complaining.

IDK.. I saw an interview with some American players and they said it took two or three days, but now they are completely used to them.

Adidas always releases a new ball for each World Cup and there's always bitching about it. Yeah, apparently the ball can get pretty random at times, but it's correctable once you get used to it, just like anything else. In either case, both sides compete with the same ball on the same pitch so there's no competitive advantage.

I agree with the competitive advantage part.

But when I've heard strikers complaining about the ball, and not just goalies, there's an issue, IMO - and I really could care less about soccer.

Even I'd hate to see the WC decided because a routine shot decided to take a wild move because of the ball design - and be the GWG.

That's been the worry for the last 8 years or so when Adidas started to get experimental with their ball designs in the last 2 world cups. Some strikers are complaining, some are saying it's fine. Some midfielders are complaining, some are saying it's fine. The only real victims in this are goalies, who have to react to trajectories they can't properly judge.

See, I can talk a little soccer, even though I have some serious issues with the game.

:D

Why does Adidas feel the need to **** with it? The EUFA Champions League ball was badass, IMO, and I don't recall any controversy over it.

You're doing a good job, we're proud of you for contributing to this thread in a positive manner. And yeah, nobody knows why Adidas does these things except for Adidas. I guess they're trying to be the tip of the spear in sports equipment progress.
