I've always maintained that Nirvana is perhaps the most overrated band in history.

Two other guys I thought of that should be considered: Steve Morse and Martin Barre.

Honestly, Yngwie was a technician like no other but he just didn't have "it".

I didn't realize just how hollow it was until I saw my 13-year old nephew playing Guitar Hero and hammering out solos like a pro, even though he'd never played the guitar.

To Yngwie, the guitar was just like that controller with a bunch of buttons, he was just manipulating a tool like any other technician.

the fact that they think there's 91 players ahead of Dimebag makes this entire list a ****ing joke

Nzoner 11-23-2011 06:41 PM

:doh!:

No Joe Bonamassa?

What a bunch of focking idiots,I dare anyone to watch the following and make an argument why he isn't on the list.

No Tom Scholz (Boston), played the 12 string as good as anybody on 6.? He played every instrument before their 1st LP.

Also I remember years ago when Ace Frehley was touted as one of the best to ever play & he's not even @ the bottom. I know he influenced Dimebag & several others.

Wow. just. wow. This list is ****ed up.

I hate these, because they are subjective, but L. Buckingham is betthan half of those above him.

finger picking is pure talent.

Misplaced_Chiefs_Fan 11-23-2011 08:13 PM

I'm not even a country fan (although I was certainly exposed to it when I was younger), but Roy Clark could out play a vast majority of those listed (and then play fiddle, banjo, mandolin and steel guitar over their corpses).

KCwolf 11-23-2011 08:17 PM

Whatever......Marc Ford not on this list is a travesty. Period.

Huffman83 11-23-2011 08:17 PM

I think this is a great list of songwriters. Leave the top 100 guitarist list to magazines like Guitar World. I'm not even a fan but there's no way Satch/Malmsteen/Vai is less of a guitar player than Johnny Ramone. And I LOVE the Ramones.

As for personal favorites, Steve Howe has always made these lists. Why no more? His playing has declined, but so has Hendrix's. Should be on body of work. Howe in his heyday was outstanding.

I also wish Steve Hackett were on the list (as he sometimes is). He was tapping long before Eddie Van Halen popularized it.

No Alvin Lee or Robin Trower?

No Alvin Lee, hell, no Albert Lee for that matter.

Rolling Stone again proves why it sucks. Rolling Stone is a joke and always has been.

No Frank Black
