I appreciate it! You make very valid points.
Most of the time you see bands out pushing their material with dreams of "making it big" or being rockstars. While I admit, all of us in the band would sign the dotted line for the right price... that is not our goal.
We get together once a week to hang out with each other away from our families/jobs and have a good quality time bringing our musical influences together to see what we can make. It's that joy in the power of creation (you know what I mean) like those magical moments during a jam where everyone looks at each other with big eyes and thinks "wow, that sounded good... we just did that."
Now, would it be cool to do that in front of tens of thousands of people? sure, but that is VERY unrealistic now days. Fact is; with the internet and home studios, the world is flooded with the occasional very talented band, and very untalented crap that people are sick of sifting through. Some of my favorite bands in the world, with super talented musicians are breaking up because the industry is somehow messed up....(Oceansize???) while other bands that play complete shit for music are freaking huge....(Nickelback/Hinder?)

It may have been a mistake to release Esdraelon Part 1 on it's own for the same reasons you suggested, but when Part 2 is involved that is exactly what the song does... takes off into another dynamic that should wake up the listener (if they fell asleep lol). In the grand scheme of things this is meant to be a 14 minute track split into two pieces much like Tool - Wings for Marie / 10,000 days.
Wings for Marie would NEVER be released as a single.... but on an album it totally works with the FLOW as a complete piece of art. We are hoping that this song Esdraelon Pt 1 will fill that role once we can put out an entire album worth of music. We have an album worth written, but we are recording them one at a time since I am doing all of the recording and mixing on my own at a self-learn pace... it's going to take awhile. I am releasing them as I go to keep local interest for live acts, etc because when people KNOW your songs they have a much better time seeing you live.

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble. You seem to have a good knowledge and experience about music, I only wish we could sit and have a nice conversation over some tasty alcoholic beverages. :thumb:

Sounds pretty good. Are you still playing with the same group of guys I saw you with back in 07/08? I totally forgot the name of the bar.. Pretty sure I remember a glassjaw cover.

Thanks Quik! Playing with the same Guitarist.
Haha that place was called "The Studio Downtown".... poor bar was a couple blocks outside of P&L... it had little chance.

I know I don't have much background of where you're coming from or where you want to be, but, I'm willing to have a frank discussion with you ragarding what to look out for and where the opportunties are now.

PM me if you're interested in having a chat about this with an "old man" who's time has passed. I may be able to help.:thumb:

Haha that's so awesome dude!
(I just re-read this thread after a year)

God I loved this project. We wrote an entire album worth of tracks that never got recorded.

The guitar players ended up getting jobs that were exact opposite shifts. This left absolutely zero time for practices, let alone shows and recording time. We've been on hiatus for awhile, although I've just learned that work schedules may change on June 1st, and the guys want to get back together to finish what we started. (hopefully!)
The bassist did come over a few days ago to lay down our next release though... which is a start!

Meanwhile, I've been writing with a different group of guys that you can catch in my other thread.

Update:

I've recorded/mixed and had mastered a new track. I hope you enjoy.
I'm currently working on remixing Deviations, Esdraelon, and we should have another new song ready for release within the next month!

The demo in the OP is pretty good.

What kind of influences do you guys have?

Thanks man. I've gotten a lot better at production over the last year so I'm currently remixing that song "Deviations".

Falter is my latest release (today). I'd like to think I've made quite the jump in quality.

For this band, most of us are influenced by:
Tool, Rishloo, Oceansize, Dredg, Porcupine Tree, TesseracT, Karnivool, Dead letter Circus, Deftones
Basically any Prog-Rock.

I can definitely hear the Deftones/early Incubus stuff like that in there. It's not my favorite (I'm more of a Monster Magnet, QOTSA, Sabbath guy) but I can definitely dig it.

EDIT: I can also hear some At the Drive In / Sparta kinda sound in there. I'm a big Sparta fan.

I don't think any of the other guys are Sparta fans, but I was really into Wiretap Scars back in the day. Threes is good too.
Saw them at the Beaumont at the Sno-Core tour with Dredg and Glassjaw... was an ice storm that night and was only like a hundred people. It ruled.

I really enjoyed it, very atmospheric.

Well then there's a reason I like your stuff. ;)

Keep posting it, I'll listen to it.

Molitoth 12-08-2013 10:44 AM

bumping while it's still new. =)

Molitoth 12-27-2013 02:58 PM

I remixed Deviations as well as acquired some new gear and re-recorded the vocals... so I'm curious if you all like it more/less/or can't tell the difference from the original.
