So you guys are saying that the account in question is 100% legit?

It's an IP address from KC on RoadRunner that hasn't been used on the site before. Does that mean there's no chance at all that it could be someone who has been here before? No - IPs are dynamic, so there's no way to know for sure. But it's not someone using a proxy, and it's not someone who has been posting from two different accounts at the same time. Also, as noted, that account was registered a month ago, so it's obviously not a reaction to last night's game in any way.

We also have another way of detecting mults that I won't go into much (as it would clue people in on how to get around it), but it's based on the actual computer being used rather than IP addresses. So, we'd be able to detect even most people who DO know how to use proxies.

TL;DR: It's highly unlikely that a mult account would get by us these days.

If you had any idea what you're talking about, you'd know that proxies are one of the easiest things to detect out there. Hell, if it was even an issue, there are add-ins for vBulletin that will block proxies entirely.

Since you go to such extremes (so you say) to ferret out mults, why not post a list of accounts you know to be mults so they can be publicly bitch slapped?

That should cut down on the number of mults.

That's my point. Unless I'm forgetting someone, there really aren't any. Are there people who have abandoned old accounts and come back as someone new? Sure. Are there joke accounts (e.g., Og the Caveman) that get pulled out from time for fun? Of course. Do we sometimes have people who share computers with roommates? Yup. But are there people who regularly use multiple accounts to post? Nope. If they try, the mods typically step in pretty quickly. You just never hear about it.

Okey dokey. But like I said, it's an amazing coincidence, and you shouldn't be surprised that those of us who don't have access to the same tools you guys do would come to the conclusion that we did.

No, I don't fault people for being suspicious. I just get cranky when the whole "CP is overrun with mults" BS starts up again.
