Wow, what's with all this proud American Exceptionalism going on in this thread? I thought that was dead?

Brings a tear to my eye.

Can't wait for the next phase of space exploration!

Came right by me too -- took a video but don't know how to post it.

Was very cool - about 500 feet off the ground cruising down PCH...

The shuttle glides in atmosphere. It has engines only for maneuvering in space.

I got to witness the same thing as the Space Shuttle Discovery flew all over DC accompanied by a fighter jet and landed at Dulles. I also saw it towed down the road to Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum

I love the shuttle. But I just dont see the awesome in this. To me its sad. & A BIG STEP BACKWARDS IMO. We now pay Russia to get us into orbit. How is that or this awesome?
For a kid that was born in 1969 & grew up in the late 70s & early 80s. Watching the recent dismantling of NASA
Well it SUCKS!

LiveSteam-well said.

We are no longer a leader in space

Thanks to those that put in the pictures.

Those of you that get to see these shuttles up close-you will never forget it.

I was picked to go to Space Camp for Educators. Got to see an SR-71 up close. They had a shuttle model.
AND I got to be the Captain for my team-and commanded the Space Shuttle. Just as real as sitting in the Shuttle.

Hope to see the real thing too.

We can hand over boatloads of cash to Middle East countries. But we cant afford NASA. WTF!

To those who think California shouldn't have one of the shuttles: STFU

Endeavour was assembled here in the Antelope Valley. So much of the infrastructure for the Shuttle program is housed here in California. The first landing was at Edwards Air Force Base.

In fact, if they did it the right way, Endeavour would be housed in the Antelope Valley, Kennedy would keep the one they're getting, and the one that's going to the Smithsonian should go to Houston.

I watched it this morning as it flew over the AFB. What a cool moment.

It was just cool seeing something that big fly 500 feet over the house with a fighter escort.

One of those things you don't ever see things...

The rest of what you said I agree with...

Interest, piqued!!!
