Can someone recommend a server to play on?

I tried 3 different serves last night and each time it was something different. I thought I would log on with the same character each time.

Playing at night seems completely pointless if you don't have a vehicle BTW.

However I can see the benefit for higher level players. Good time to avoid the crowds, use night vision, move around without fear of getting shot.

Download this after you have everything installed and update it. It will help you filter through servers and keep your DayZ up to date for you.

Yes this is a hardcore survival game. There are plenty of towns with loot but the world is HUGE.. A lot of times you will be jogging through the woods and won't see anyone for 10 minutes (but you have to drink a pepsi because your thirst icon is flashing red).
And trust no other human in-game unless you know them.

As for spawning the same guy every time YES it works like that as long as you stay on the same server hive. There are lots of public hive servers, but I play on a private hive server where you can pick 1 of 3 servers to play on all within that hive so your gear is the same on all 3. MAKE SENSE? :P

At the time I only had my macbook (in college) -- I played the **** out of the mac version (same as Windows). One of my favorite online experiences in memory.

This game is not a shoot-em up.... You want to remain hidden... get very used to your hidden meter and get VERY used to crouching, going prone, and using your mouse's scroller wheel and button like you ever had to in a game.
Another great tip for you newcomers, you can only go inside building and houses that you can ACTUALLY see into the windows and into the house/building.
