I am amused by the hypocrisy of the NFL, but I'll keep watching because it's good entertainment.

Of course if the ref does his job and ejects Talib - then the idiot punditry descends upon you talking about the refs "trying to be part of the game".

He should be fined, and with his comments today(admitting it was on purpose), he should get a heavy suspension. But they were not going to eject him for that play. Not in the Super Bowl. |
This is my issue, if the NFL wants to acknowledge that football is a violent and dangerous game played by a bunch of yoked up assholes, then I am ok with just a 1 yard penalty. But if they want to continue on their soap box about how player safety is the number 1 priority and not profits, then I'll just keep shaking my head at shit like this.
Which is it Roger? |
“My teammates knew what it was,” Talib said. “He was on the 3-yard line. (With) a personal foul, he was on the 1 1/2-yard line, so it is what it is.”
This is why they need t change the penalty rules for intentional shit like this. |

If they want to start doing it next year, then I'm actually all for it. But you can't do it out of nowhere in the SB. |
But, yeah. It was a dirty play. And he's a scumbag. Like I mentioned earlier.

I've never thought about this before, but it's interesting that all penalties for the most part are paid in yardage and downs.
If you have a personal foul or unsportsmanlike conduct, both of which affect player safety and/or the reputation of the sport, it seems like teams should have a choice. Take the penalty in yards or put the offending player in a penalty box for a while to cool down and mature. What would be an appropriate penalty box time for for a run of the mill personal foul like the ones the Broncos commit ten times a game? And would you measure it in plays or clock time or something else? It's a little complicated due to the nature of football having specialized offensive, defensive, and special teams units. It seems like the penalties should be measured in either plays or drives. In this case, the Panthers could take a 1 yard penalty or they could put Talib in the penalty box for two offensive drives or 10 defensive plays or something like that. |
