Season 5 Episode 5 - The Waitress Gets Married

Charlie trying to tell his date from Match.com at the fancy restaurant that he is a PHILANTHROPIST and instead he tells her he is a FULLONRAPIST along with the people he "helps"!

I just laughed out loud for 5 minutes! Holy shit that maybe the best thing so far along with Charlie and Dennis passed out in the back of the UHaul from toxic smoke after trying to cook hotdogs while burning wicker chairs.

This show is just too funny.....

I saw that one early on. It wasn’t until much later after learning Charlie has serious illiteracy problems, that made that bit even better.

Everyone is funny and has their moments, but Dennis is my favorite character. He's just so wickedly vain and psychotic in a hilarious way.

scho63 09-05-2018 08:07 AM

I'm exhausted and spent after watching every episode of all 12 seasons. I haven't laughed out loud like this in years.

Where to begin.....
  • Rickety Cricket? Jesus Christ what a funny ass character. The progression of his demise after each encounter with the group is fantastic.
  • Maureen Ponderosa turning into a cat......
  • McPoyle and his cartoon like eye on his eye patch. Jimmi Simpson plays that character to perfection! The milk angle is hysterical
  • The Unibrow and lip licking of Margaret McPoyle of her mustache
  • Dennis Reynolds becomes so unlikable by the end it's not funny-his attempts to try and act all high brow and sophisticated that always falls flat.
  • The amount of silly shit Danny DeVito does either on drugs or for drugs, especially with Artemis
  • The amount of off-color and completely politically incorrect humour
  • Charlie's inability to read or write, his infatuation with cheese, the waitress and rats/spiders/crows.
  • Mac's Asspounder 4000
  • His Prison Dad's always angry scary demeanor and his scary Mom with her cigarettes
  • Charlie's whore Mom who acts all saintly
  • Dee always being the target and saying Son of a Bitch constantly plus her becoming more and more desperate at NOT being a whore who sleeps with everyone.

The only downside I see is anytime they tried to mimic another show or premise, I found those the least funniest of all.

I've never seen a show to compare to this........just incredible.:clap:

So glad I took the leap of faith!!! :D

Dayze 09-05-2018 10:02 AM

I find the meta level humor on this show really good.
The Gang Misses the Boat and the one where they try to get Paddy's a major award; I loved the bar they go to that has won all the past awards to see what makes that bar so great. The joke being that 'bars' like that, are like the show Friends and the canned type of 'bars' seem to win everything .

The bell at that bar that tells everyone it's time to drink equating to a laugh track was great. The 'friendly banter' of the bartenders. The mention of not having 'too many' black patrons at the bar because those types of bars never win any awards. LMAO.

Bravo for watching them all.
the great thing about this show is, even if you've seen them all, virtually all of them are just as funny with each subsequent watch.

I can't wait for tonight.

BigBeauford 09-05-2018 10:25 AM

We've talked about best episodes, but what about best moments? I nominate the limo scene from "Frank's Pretty Woman". The blood capsule vomiting had me dying. "Ive been poisoned by my constituents!"

Dayze 09-05-2018 10:29 AM

I wouldn't even know where to begin on the Best Moments front.

Though, the episode where they get 'shhhh'd" at the Gin Bar, and they're trying to find out who shhh'd them. After gonig to a police sketch artist, they don't get to keep the artists rendering. they end up, apparently, enlisting a caricature artist - who draws the "Shhh-er" caricature style......and in a dune buggy for whatever reason. LMAO

That was a great one when Roxy dies and the gang goes, "What do we do with the dead whore in the apartment? Should we put her in the hallway?" ROFLROFL

on Mac's Day ( i think that's the Country Mac episode)...they end up at a body building competition. everyone is puzzled why they're there in the first place, and Mac casually mentions "....we're here to grease up these beefcakes"

he says it in a way like "duh"...why else would we be here.

A Cricket's Tale
Cricket is in some alley way rummaging through the dumpster. Some man approaches him (which turns out to be his dad, who was looking for him). The man says something behind him, and Cricket - who is still concentrating on the dumpster - says "Yeah yeah, I'm the suckboy you are looking for"

Not sure if you know/were already aware, or if there are others here on CP that are new to IASIP..but the fan theories about Pepe Silvia are great.

The Fan Theories out there claim that all the mail for Pepe Silvia that Charlie is freaking out about, was actually just Charlie and his illiteracy/dyslexia flipping letters around in his head from the words "Philadelphia, PA" that was likely written / addressed on all the envelopes.

and all the mail for "Carol From HR" as Charlie confusing the words "Care of HR".

I think I read somewhere that the IASIP writers said that theory wasn't the case. but I think it's a perfect theory. Charlie freaking out about all this mail for Pepe.......when it's his own illiteracy causing it. LMAO

an underrated line from that Pepe scene was Mac freaking * Charlie tells him "will you just settle down, and have another cup of coffee"

Dayze 09-06-2018 09:14 AM

another great moment / one-liner.

I forget the name of the episode; but it's the one where Dennis is reading to Mac and Frank from his personal diary of his romantic episodes. After hearing Dennis' account of it all, Mac mentions something like "wow...that's pretty erotic".

then Frank chimes in:
"Yeah..I'm gettin' all boned up over here"

I've heard it and it would be great, but I never believed it. The S in Silvia ruins it for me because that's a sound it out letter. I just don't see how he gets Silvia with no S in "Philadelphia, PA."

Plus Mac says "not only do all of these people exist, but they have been asking about their mail constantly."

Dayze 09-07-2018 02:32 PM

yeah. I think i could see it if the envelopes had "Philadelphia, Pennsylvania" written on them. that would get the "S" of Sylvia. But Mac stating they exist, sort of blows it.
but in my mind...that's how I view the scene because it's funnier to me that way.
lol

Charlie's pedophile uncle Jack who is a hack lawyer and hates his tiny hands is played to perfection.

I’ve been obsessed with this show since “The Gang Gets Invincible” aired 10 years ago and have watched every episode, a minimum of 10 times apiece (excluding this new season). I even dressed up as Green Man for Halloween in 2008 and won $500 at a costume contest...at the time, no one got it, for most people hadn’t heard of the show yet.

Anyways, one of my favorite things about the show are all of the zany recurring characters or minor characters that were only in an episode. Some of my favorite episodes have appearances from Cricket, Uncle Jack, Roxy, the lawyer, The Maniac, Bill Ponderosa (BAHAHAHA, that guy!), Uncle Jack, Country Mac, Gail the Snail, McPoyles, Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. McDonald, Ben the soldier, Dee’s “reeruned” rapper bf lil’ Kev, etc.

Uncle Jack has me in stitches every time he’s on... some of these characters, it’s like, where on Earth did they even come up with the idea for them?! A creepy, moustached uncle of Charlie’s who has an obsession with the size of his (and others) hands who is a vocal/public advocate for “artistic” photos of young boys and somehow, is an attorney....ROFL Funny shit.

A couple of my favorite episodes are “The Gang Squashes Their Beefs” and “Sweet Dee Gives Birth,” because both episodes group up some of the zany ass minor characters. It’s hilarious watching the weirdos that the gang associates with, interacting with each other in a group. ROFL

He is my favorite as well... really ties the show together.

In the first episode of this season, I was bummed the entire first 20-some minutes of the show. I heard that Howerton was going to be in “most” of the episodes and they had me thinking that they meant he was going to be there only in the form of the blow up doll. I was bummed as hell. And Mindy Kaling (who I’ve only really liked as a writer for The Office) was in there making it lame and I thought the show had officially done it...it had officially jumped the shark...by losing Dennis. Had a hard time getting through it, but glad I did... was pumped as hell when he showed up at the end of the episode. And laughed my ass off when he asked Mac if he had gained weight. LMAO

That episode was so much better the 3rd or 4th time I watched it, knowing he wasn’t gone... was easier to pick up on some funny shit earlier in the episode without the “Dennis is gone” cloud looming above. Like the sound effect/camera zooming in every time the Dennis blow up doll would get into their heads, not to mention how funny the ****ing doll looked... ROFL Frank, Charlie and Dee all being on the same page at the same time about the blow up Dennis calling Dee a bird...ROFL It was the worst episode ever for me while watching it and now it is funny as hell, like 90% of them.

I’ve probably watched my favorite episodes like 30+ times (as lame as that sounds...it’s usually from putting it on certain episodes when I go to bed because they never get old to me). I’d have to say my absolute favorites are these:

- Mac Day (could be my favorite ever... I love that Country Mac character and really everything about that episode).

- The Gang Gets Invincible (Green Man Charlie with the McPoyles...Frank on acid...LMAO)

- Mac and Dennis Break Up

- Sweet Dee is Dating a reeruned Person (LMAOLMAOLMAO)

- Frank’s Pretty Woman (the intro of fat Mac, Roxy is funny as hell, “shut up, baby dick,” “ohhhh this coat is tighter than dick skin.” Etc. Funny as hell).

-High School Reunion 1 and 2

- The Gang Dines Out

- The Gang Squashes their Beefs...(there isn’t an episode I’ve watched more than this one... loved how they got all the weirdo minor characters together).

- The Gang Hits the Slopes (the cameo from that dude from the Ski School movies, the parody of those movies, etc. Funny as ****).

- The Gang Goes to the Water Park

- Mac and Charlie Die Parts 1 and 2... (Frank making a Charlie doll as well as when they watched their funeral and Charlie had mourners and no one gave a shit about Mac, who’s own Mom was sleeping at the funeral kills me every time).

- Mac and Dennis Buy a Time Share

- Old Lady House: A Situation Comedy

- The Gang Wrestles for the Troops (Rowdy Roddy Piper, LMAO)

- Mac’s Mom Burned Her House Down

- The Nightman Cometh

- The D.E.N.N.I.S. System

- The Christmas episode (Mac and Charlie’s past Christmas stories).

- Sweet Dee Gives Birth

- Gun Fever: Still Too Hot

- The Gang Misses the Boat

- Being Frank

- Paddy’s Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens

Those are just off the top of my head. I can go on forever about this show. Top 3 funniest shows ever made...easy.

Loved it. It had an old school Sunny feel to it. Lots of good one liners in that one, especially by Frank.
I wasn't a huge fan of the female version of the Gang Beats Bogs. I've really liked all the other ones this season so far though. Really liked The Gang Gets New Wheels. loved that the implication was that the Range Rover had some sort of special power - Dee turning into a femail Dennis; Dennis turning into a middle aged fantasy sports dork. LMAO

The Clip Show was, somehow, fantastic.

Dayze 10-19-2018 09:15 AM

watched The Clip Show last night. At first, it felt like a typical 'best of' type show. But I LOVED how, once again, they provided some meta humor saying things to the effect of "No, guys....we're not just going to sit around here reminiscing about the past. that's just lazy. we gotta make new memories etc". subtle jab at all the other shows that have been on forever that just mail it in towards the end.

then, the episode got great. everyone mis-remembering everything, then the whole alternate reality thing. Frank's hair and legs LMAO. Dennis' alternate reality where Mac isn't his roomate because of Macs, ..uhm........workout bike.

The Gang casually referring to Charlie #2 as "It".

great episode. very smartly done IMO.

I had almost forgtotten about Dee's asian character. LMAO. though, not the same without the teeth and wig.

Charlie giving Frank 'lesions' by giving him hickies.
I think there was even a small part where Frank and Charlie run into Dennis at the park at some point during they day; Dennis notices Franks new 'lesions', and casually asks "...you doin' an AIDS thing"? and they respond "Yeah".

I'm a pretty hardcore fan but not that big of a fan. Fortunately I don't think there will ever be a scenario where sticking my leg in a trap will help the Chiefs win. But who knows what the future will hold? ROFL

I second that.

What a spectacular finale. I was waiting for the punchline to come and (thankfully) it just....never came.
The shots of DeVito during the performance were just as powerful.

Well done.

that was, for a very crass show, very endearing. was that 'sigor rous' (sp) music wise?

totally didn't see that coming, but was heart warming :D

did i detect a bit of kubrick? boy i felt it! :thumb:

What horrible thing does it say about me if I'm not utterly gobsmacked by this episode.

I thought it was neat, and I thought 'Mac's' commitment was admirable, and I THINK I get the sleight of hand where they really zigged when you expected the show to zag. But social media is treating this like The Miracle of Fatima.

scho63 11-09-2018 06:55 PM

I thought that was a really cool episode with a lot of funny stuff and sights and of course my favorite supporting cast member Cricket.

Interesting that Dennis was not in the episode.

Frank was a riot and all the shit he kept shoving up his nose was repulsive. At one point he looked like Uncle Leo from Seinfeld after Elaine had to draw eyebrows on him.

The dance scene was awesome but I really don't care about the Gay Agenda-it's been done to death......

rico 11-11-2018 07:52 AM

The finale was probably one of my least favorite Always Sunny episodes ever. Just....blah.

Agreed. I thought the dance was cool. How it was on that slick, wet surface was pretty awesome. But it just wasn't a funny episode. Maybe worse than the one where they voice the black people. The show sorely lacked Dennis the last few episodes this season...

I actually just signed up a free trial on Hulu to catch up on the past few seasons. (12 and 13)

They still have their fastball. I think my fav ep is still when they try to win an award.

Spoiler!

It was just a '**** you' to the canned over produced shit that wins meaningless awards. It's like they made it for me, but apparently it was just because their SHOW had never been nominated for any awards. Which I didn't know and found kinda... surprising. It's a ridiculously funny show.

Dayze 08-25-2019 09:22 AM

That episode is great. The bell ringing at the bar ....it tells us when to drink. Ie laugh track.

So many jabs to the face of all the canned shows out there

And
How Charlie’s first version of the song, the gang applauds him because there was no mention of spiders or goblins etc. then Charlie huffs some paint, and kicks off his new version of the song talking about spiders. LMAO.
The gangs reaction to the first line of the new song is so subtle but great

lcarus 10-25-2019 06:11 PM

This season hasn't been all that great. Last season had its moments. I miss seeing them working at Paddy's. Heck it seems they're rarely even at the bar anymore. I like seeing the gang together but in the past each character had their own thing going on which was fun. And I miss side characters like Cricket, McPoyles, Biil Ponderosa, the lawyer guy, etc. They did have the Guigino's waiter for an episode lol.

And Mac is so damn gay now lmao. If the show continues on for another 5 seasons he's gonna be an anorexic tranny or something.

Jamie 10-25-2019 07:56 PM

I think this season has been a big improvement over last season, which was easily the worst season of the series.

Also I get they probably felt like they milked Mac-in-the-closet for as long as they could, but openly gay Mac isn't as funny. It seems like the only angle they have for it so far is Mac being obsessed with Dennis, and that's not really working for me.

Yeah, last season was a little off. I think working around Glenn howerton had to have been tough. Because the season before that was brilliant. Glad to see they're back on their thing. We need more shows like south park that not only don't give a shit, but love to troll people who do give a shit.

The Range Rover episode was pretty good. Definitely my favorite of last season.

Artemis

really good first 2 episodes.

the first one was great with the 2020 current even references; Giulliani, Jan 6/supplying the protestor guy with all his animal pelts LMAO etc.
PepperJack repeatedly calling Dee bitch while she was in character as Riggs in Lethal Weapon 7. LMAO

Has she not been on in a while, I haven’t seen the newer episodes?

Pitt Gorilla 12-03-2021 12:16 AM

First two were really good.

I had always hoped Pepper Jack and his new Fraggle Rock thermos would be back at some point. I love the recurring characters on the show. We finally saw Artemis again. I hope we see Cricket, the McPoyles, the jew lawyer guy, Charlie and Mac's moms, Uncle Jack, Waitress. I thought Roddy Piper was great as Da Maniac. Too bad he's passed away.

BigBeauford 12-03-2021 09:48 AM

Is this show good again? I've been turned off with their recent episodes focused on skewering pop culture (something a lot of series pivot to when they run out of ideas).

Other than the acting is more self-conscious sometimes. I still think it's a great show.

I haven't seen the last season but I still love it. Sunny and South Park are the only TV left with teeth...

Yeah it's definitely a different show now. There used to be 2 or 3 different things going on in each episode for the different characters. Now, for the most part, the gang is always together and the episode is focused on one plot for the whole gang.
