It's already hard to accept that frazod missed his face.. No, no, no, this doesn't add up at all. Are we sure this was a real gun, and not like Nerf, and it went off frazod's forehead, off your chest, and landed behind someone's computer monitor?

Someone's getting shot today, damnit, and I get their casino cash. :cuss:

As much as you hate it, come to Kansas. There are tons of dual KU/KSU fans. Depending on who they are around, they like KU or KSU.

I've even got a "friend" who started off a UNC fan. Then, when he discovered there are very few UNC fans in Kansas, he suddenly became a "long time" KU fan.

No offense taken. That's why it was "friend" and not friend. It would be like me moving to Columbia and all of a sudden telling everyone that "I've always been a Missouri fan." It's just not right.

I remember driving across Kansas about 20 years ago. I was helping my cousin move to LA, and driving the rental truck while she and her roommate drove their cars. The ****ing truck had a governor on it that limited the speed to 65 mph. It was brutal, and endless. The odd clump of trees surrounding a distant farmhouse, flat endless horizon in either direction, heading towards a distant rise. When you nearly reach the top of the rise, you pray for something, anything different, but all you you'd get is another rise that looks just like it. Over and over. Ugh.

Not to be defensive at all in comparing boringness of states because I really couldn't care less about either state (outside of Lawrence, of course :) ), but it reminds me of my drive through Illinois between St. Louis and Chicago a few months ago... and it was worse than the drives through Iowa because Illinois is a 65mph state and I was trying to watch my speed after having been pulled over a couple of times in the recent past.

It wast the most brutal 300 miles I've driven in a long, long time. Then again, I haven't driven through Kansas at 65mph lately. :)

Driving across Tennessee is brutal too, as I recall.

There's a lot of that in the middle part of the country.

Oh, you're absolutely correct - that's a shitty drive as well, and one I've done hundreds of times over the years. You could pretty much roll a ****ing bowling ball from Chicago to St. Louis down I-55, and the only things that might stop it would be a construction zone or a slow-moving semi. I generally try to do it at night so I can at least imagine there's something worth watching out there.

The really shitty thing about that drive is that some idiot decided it would be a good idea to have lower speed limits for trucks than cars, and there is a ton of truck traffic on I-55 and lots of cops. So you'll frequently get stuck behind one truck doing 57 mph passing ten other trucks doing 54 mph. Bastards. And of course, during the summer, they'll cordon off one lane for 20 miles and the construction itself comprises perhaps 100 feet of actual roadway. Get out of one zone, and you'll hit another one 15 minutes later.

Yeah, that drive sucks ass.

The worst part is, you keep creeping closer and closer to Colorado, thinking about the forests and the mountains, but when you finally get there, you find that eastern Colorado is actually WORSE than Kansas. It's another three hours until you even see a ****ing mountain.

Of course, once you get PAST that pit of despair otherwise known as Denver, the drive becomes breathtaking, all the way to Los Angeles. I guess the desert would get old eventually, but since I'd never seen it before even that was awesome.

Fly to Phoenix, then take the $80.00 "puddle-jumper" up to our airport. This place is ****ing AWESOME in the summer!

No humidty, highest high is like 85 degrees in August for all of two days, and tons of Valley poon on Holidays. LOT's of shit to do here, and some of the best Mexican food you'll ever eat.

Yeah, driving westward through Kansas is most definitely not fun, but driving anywhere for a long time is just as bad. The only difference between driving through Missouri and Kansas is that there are definitely less white trash gas stations and adult stores in Kansas. I'm sorry, but trees and half-ass hills don't make the drive any more pleasant for me.

The only pleasant long drives I've ever had were through the Smokey Mountains and through Northern California.

As barren and desolate as western Kansas/eastern Colorado is, central Nebraska is unbelieveably even flatter and more featureless.

Love flying - hate airlines and airports. If I can drive somewhere in a day or just a bit over that, I'll drive every time. Cheaper, less bullshit, I control where and when I go, and I'm not at the mercy of a system that cares absolutely nothing about me or my problems because I'm not a filthy rich frequent flier. 4321

Newport, Rhode Island to St. Louis - 17 hours, only stopped when I needed gas. My '85 Cutlass was certainly more comfortable than that 280Z, but it was brutal nonetheless.

I was in my early 20s when I did that - don't know if I could hack it now.

When I was working in Auburn Hills, I loved the thought of taking a 7:30pm flight out of Detroit and (with the time change) being in my apartment in Omaha at 9:30.

But, when I got to thinking about it, I'd have to leave work around 2pm so I could make it back to the hotel and then avoid the awful Detroit traffic... so it took 7.5 hours of my time, as opposed 9 hours of driving... which is why I drove back and forth, except on weekend trips.

On espn.com, the scoreboard defaults to top 25, so you have to select Big 12.... I usually just go to standings and find the school, because the scoreboard page can take 4 days to load sometimes.

That's the thing - you piss away so much time in an airport (even if your flight is one time, which at O'Hare is doubtful) that by the time you get to the airport, stand in line, check in, go through security, then wait to board, wait on the tarmac, and wait some more, then the flight, the go through it all over again once you get where you're going and then deal with a rental car, chances are you could have already driven to anywhere in the midwest in your own car.

We had a 164mph tailwind, reached 557 knots and a groundspeed of around 654mph...

We made it from OKC to Orlando in about 2:05 min....

As far as roadtrips, I drove to Harrisburg, PA once to pick up a Chevelle for a friend... driving straight through to PA wasn't bad, since we obviously switched off driving, but driving back on 5 hours of sleep sucked.

Drove about 40 hours in a span of 48 (driving insanely slow on the way back).

Those were the days... got a call a few days before, said sure why not... even didn't show up for a part time job so I could take the trip. Good times. :)

Heheh... GC says a lot of things.

What's with this thread, anyway? Dogs and cats... living together.

The upside is that I don't waste any time here, because Omaha's airport and KCI are so easy. I get strange looks when I mention showing up 2 hours early (and still show up an hour early, which is 30 minutes too early).

It's getting easier though... Atlanta was the first place that I've seen where they have the ticket kiosks out in the open, so you don't have to wait in line to use one (and there were like 25 of them just for Delta). It was so easy, in fact, I walked the 2 miles to my gate because I was so early. :p

I was thinking it could be a new night thread, but figured a comment like that might anchor it.

Basketball, football, poles, weight, shooting people in the face, roadtrips, flights... good thread.
