Statistics show that the first round is the best place to get a SB winning QB.

Yes, I know Brees was a free agent. As was Favre. So I know it can be done. But like I said, the numbers have shown that it's slim to none.

You didn't say win the super bowl, you were talking about winning games next season.

I said we could probably win some regular season games next year, yes. Sorry I wasn't more specific.

I know the Raiders history is different than KC's, but after everything the Chiefs have been thru, I'll never complain one bit if the Chiefs draft a Qb in the first round.

If you guys won 8 games last year I would agree, too far away now for a rookie leading this team.. Maybe get Alex and Draft Geno for a year from now

Wrong.

The best thing that could happen for the Chiefs is to start a rookie QB under center this season. Namely starting Geno Smith.

O.city 02-03-2013 06:37 PM

I was waiting to see who would fall for that.

R8RFAN 02-03-2013 06:39 PM

How do you take his job away

QB's should never be drafted in the first round. Never worth the risk.

It is a gamble, but one worth taking. I do think the Chiefs are drafting too high to justify any the QBs in this class~

Goes to show that these running QB's aren't worth a damn.

Yep. And his first 5 or 6 years in the league don't matter, he is what he was in one single game.

O.city 02-03-2013 07:08 PM

Alex Smith is a good example that the Jags should stick with Gabbert for atleast 3 more years. He will eventually get it.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 02-03-2013 07:13 PM

Look at how the veteran QB is playing in the Super Bowl compared to the young dude. The Chiefs should take Smith. I've been a Chief fan for 3 years and if they don't win the Super Bowl next year I AM DONE....

Actually I was wrong, that was from his last two starts since he left the one early.

And he was actually averaging over 12 yards a completion.

Cassel has put together a similar year and a half at one point lets just keep him

Alex Smith 2012: 7.97 average yards

Geno Smith 2012: 8.1 average yards WITH STEDMON BAILEY AND TAVON AUSTIN

O.city 02-03-2013 07:33 PM

Maybe the jags should look at smith, since gabbert a contract is so small. Easy to get around. He would fit there nicely

Big ****ing deal. Akers is due 3.7 million next year, and there is no way they will keep him around at the price, if at all. Draft a kid in the sixth or seventh, and you're halfway to solving the dreaded Alex Smith cap dilemma.

I'm not saying they WON'T trade him or let him go, I'm just saying they would be stupid to do it.

Jaguars could only free up like 1.2 million from Gabbert and they are 21m under the cap as is.

Smith would free up 7.5 and they are only 3.5 under cap.

You're an idiot if you are making that comparison.

I don't care about comparing the Niners and the Jags' situation.

My point is that if the Niners trade/release Smith based on his cap number, then they are lazy, incompetent, or just want him gone. The cap is easily mauvered these days, and 7.5 mil is not a death warrant of a cap number for a quarterback to carry.

I'm no Alex Smith fan by any stretch, but the way they run Kaepernick, they'd be dumb to let a guy like Smith go that can come off the bench and not miss a beat.

It would be bad team management, plain and simple.

It doesn't mean shit, the contract offered will be indicative to what will take place. If a team wants Smith for a year or for the long term.

I don't really care either way. If they bring in A. Smith, fine. But, you better damn well make the playoffs next year if thats the case. No exceptions.

O.city 02-04-2013 12:11 PM

Although, I don't really get where this is coming from. Based on the backgrounds of Reid and Dorsey, they are far more likely to draft a QB than bring in a f/a.

ShowtimeSBMVP 02-04-2013 12:12 PM

NFL Philosophy ‏@NFLosophy

The one hindrance on trading Alex Smith lies in his contract:$7.5M salary, $1M roster bonus. It all becomes guaranteed on April 1st.

**** that. They trade for Smith and not draft a QB #1 they are just as stupid as Pioli.

O.city 02-04-2013 12:16 PM

How is this any different than what Pioli did with Cassel?

Why does the national media always think it's better for the Chiefs to grab a free agent qb than the draft?
