Agreed with all but not being able to watch it often. I'll watch that movie any time it's on!

Don't get me wrong, I like it so much I have it on Blu-ray. But it is a once a year watch for me. Still love it though.

That's where Vincent shot Marvin, not the face.

Well physically in between the throat and upper chest. But in the script, Vincent exclaimed that he shot Marvin in the throat.

That's what I get for referring to the script.

VINCENT
C'mon, Marvin. Do you think God came
down from Heaven and stopped the
bullets?

Vincent's .45 goes BANG!

Marvin is hit in the upper chest, below the throat. He GURGLES
blood and SHAKES.

JULES
What the ****'s happening?

VINCENT
I just accidentally shot Marvin in
the throat.

JULES
Why the **** did you do that?

VINCENT
I didn't mean to do it. I said it
was an accident.

I liked There Will be Blood. But it was really really different than anything I'd seen before. They used little things like silence in the right places. Did you notice that there wasn't any talking at all during the first 15 minutes straight? No backdrop music, just the sounds of the action. Made it extra lonely. But I can see how some people might hate it.

And people bitch about films that kick them in the face with VFX from the first frame.

PS: Some movies take time to develop.

Please decipher this one all mighty one.

Should I have stuck with The Campaign? I was gathering from the start that VFX weren't going to be present and in a movie that poorly written and without visual effects, not much point sticking around.

BigBeauford 07-06-2013 06:34 PM

Just walked out of "The Heat". Putrid steaming pile of shit. McCarthy was probably batting about .100 on the jokes, and she forced one in every 10 seconds. Painful to watch, terrible editing. I don't remember seeing something that the critics got so wrong. Least funny "comedy" since Movie 43. Watch at your own risk.

SnakeXJones 07-07-2013 03:00 AM

Movie 43 ... What a terrible POS

I agree on all but 8mm. Phoenix was awesome in that movie.

Did anyone like the movie "Avitar"?

It was on the other night, tried to watch but looked dumb. Watched ten minutes and didn't care for it.

The Others, IMO, was awesome. You didn't stick with it until the ending?

No, I was referring to the fact that people bitch and complain about movies like Transformers for being all about visual effects, yet people bitch about movies without visual effects that rely on story and no visual effects.

Movies are so polarizing today that it becomes ever more difficult to produce a good film. Man of Steel is the perfect example. People either love it or hate it and generally for the same reasons.

No one liked "Avatar". It only grossed $2.8 billion dollars at the box office.

Baby Lee 07-07-2013 10:59 AM

I was seriously underwhelmed with Beasts of the Southern Wild. Watched the whole thing, and it isn't a total crap movie, but underwhelming is probably the best term.

I have probably seen less than 5 movies all-time that I started and didn't finish. I usually always give them a chance. I usually prefer movies without VFX.

I dare you to try to sit through The Campaign. I triple dog dare you!

This! 8mm was a great movie. The late great James Gandolfini was apart of that masterpiece.

It was alright. Pretty impressive CGI.

Story-line is basically Pocahontas in outer space with big, blue cat creatures instead of Indians.

I watched it. It took three sittings to finish it but it wasn't awful. It ended on a rather high note. I'd have rather it ended nasty.

Stunning and ground-breaking visuals (especially in 3D). Decent acting. Familiar story.

I have higher hopes for two and three.

Movies can't just be fun anymore. Now they're either groundbreaking masterpieces or total $3it.

The first half hour of Avatar was magical. The closest I have come to the amazement of watching Star Wars in the theater as a child. Then I realized it was nothing more than a completely predictable, shameless ripoff of multiple better movies that I had already seen wrapped in a beautiful 3D package. I stayed until the end, but really, there was no need to. Yes, I knew he'd ride the giant red bird thing in a desperate battle to defeat the evil white people as soon as I saw the ****ing skeleton of the dead one.

**** you Cameron. Seriously, **** you. All that beautiful work, advanced technology and generally great actors, and THAT was the best you could come up with? Dances with Blue Aliens Pocahontas? **** you **** you **** you.

I'm hoping for better plot lines in Avatar 2 & 3. Two is supposedly set completely underwater, so that could be amazing.

**** him and **** his sequels, too. I assume the underwater one will probably be nothing more than a 3D remake of The Abyss, and I've already seen it.

blaise 07-08-2013 01:31 PM

It's funny that the Avatar sequel is set underwater. When I hear people say, "Well the visuals and color in Avatar are beautiful to see," it makes me feel like it's like looking at a fish tank for a few hours. A bunch of colors and it's kind of cool, but I don't really care about what they're doing in there.
Number three maybe will be Cameron waving a giant colorful cat toy around on screen for everyone to stare at.
