It's been proven to help people with epilepsy. My daughter has epilepsy and her neuro doctor told us that's one of things on his list that he wants us to try.

It's understandable.

I'm sure it's a different situation when you're growing up years ago with epilepsy vs. growing up with it today. Obviously more well known and understood than it was back then.

My daughter just has the daze out seizures for the most part. You'll look over and she'll be staring at the wall and won't answer you.

Buck 01-16-2015 11:18 AM

Yeah Keto is a recommended diet for epilepsy. It's essentially the Atkins induction phase, but you never phase out after a couple weeks. 20g or less of net carbs per day (carbs minus fiber).

I remember feeling a little weak as my body adjusted but nothing too serious,I would recommend drinking plenty of water.

Oh and there's some great substitutes available once you get into keto and start adding a few carbs back in.Some of my regular meals were taco salads without chips, spaghetti squash with homemade meat sauce, fried chicken(dipped in egg and rolled in pork rinds.)

If you like mashed or baked potatoes, boil some cauliflower mash it down and add butter and sour cream.

Sara Lee also makes a damn good low carb bread and there's some good low carb ice cream available too.

It's not once you get used to it. However, your brain is a mother ****er and it will convince you that you are killing yourself for the first couple days, so you gotta get through it. It's called Ketoflu. Look it up.

Lost almost 20 lbs.

There's days where I'll have 2-3 protein shakes and maybe a meal and a snack if I've been busy and don't feel like eating much.

I always here people that say protein powder is expensive but they obviously don't get math. Whey is one of the cheapest forms of protein around. A scoop of it costs around $.60 and gives me 22-25 grams. A can of tuna provides roughly the same equivalent and that's hard to find for $.60.

In58men 01-17-2015 02:04 PM

I'm down 8 lbs since Tuesday.

Breakfast: eggs, cheese, spinach, jalapeņos and sriracha. Mix it all together, add bacon or sausage too. 28 oz green tea

Snack: 28 oz of green tea and a pear

Lunch: cottage cheese, fruit and more green tea

Snack: apple w/peanut butter

Dinner: big steak or chicken, veggies, cottage cheese, MOAR green tea

DO NOT EAT AFTER 5:00 PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget to power walk an hour a day. If you go to the gym set your speed at exactly at 3.7 and don't stop for an hour.

Dunit35 01-17-2015 04:51 PM

Finally got over most my cold. I've been able to hit the gym three of the last four days. My eating habits are probably as bad or worse than Hooties.

My first day was 2 miles at 25:00. Today was 21:30. So it's getting better. I'm only running and probably will only run until the 1st.

The Franchise 01-17-2015 05:10 PM

Haven't gone out to eat this year but still too heavy on the junk food. Sleep seemed stable but has gone to shit the last couple of days again.

On the plus side I've gotten 14 days of exercise this year. 8 bike rides and 6 walks of at least 4 miles. Might clear 150 miles on the bike in january, which is unheard of for me. Starting push ups monday.

You change your body makeup a hell of a lot faster lifting weights and it burns more calories per hour when done with intensity than just about anything else you can do.

It should be the FIRST thing you do when losing weight.

Titty Meat 01-20-2015 02:45 PM

How the hell do you tell how many calories you've burned lifting? Myfitnesspal doesnt figure it out for you.

On another note I just benched pressed for the first time in a few years. ROFL in high school I maxed at 320 today I could barely lift 120.

Wish I'd got in on this. However, I started going to the gym three days a week in November. I weighed 203. This weekend, I can see less gut and my face is thinner, but I weigh 207. I'm hoping it's turning fat into muscle.

Buck 01-20-2015 06:08 PM

I've been going 3-4 times a week for about a year. I lost 0 weight on the scale for almost that entire time but look tremendously better than I did when I started.

You really can't and even estimating from cardio is pretty off if you are using any of that fitbit shit. They generally over-estimate the shit out of what you are really burning.

Just go in and lift with intensity, heavyish as well, and you'll burn more than doing anything else outside of doing tons of sprints. But I'm gonna bet most over-weight people aren't up to doing sprints.

Hammock Parties 01-20-2015 08:00 PM

Don't bother trying to count calories you burn from exercise.

Just count the calories you eat, stay below your BMR and exercise in addition to that. The weight will fly off.

Yup, I agree with this. I've never tracked calories I burn. I just estimate roughly what my BMR is and eat below that calorie wise. If I eat below that level by a few hundred calories and add in exercises to create a bigger deficit, I'll lose weight.

SIMPLE.

Dunit35 01-21-2015 12:31 AM

No reason not to train a different body part on a different day.

Personally I prefer full body workouts 3x a week.

I think most body part splits are pretty lacking, and the amount of anything worthwhile you're doing in the gym on an arm day is negligible. Fit in some arm work on a different day at the end of a workout. It shouldn't have it's own consistent day, no matter what those fitness magazines say.

Glad you're getting into the gym though. Greek yogurt is ****ing awesome!
