BY LUCY O'BRIENAccording to a new report, Marvel and Sony are zoning in on Asa Butterfield as their new Spider-Man.

The 18-year-old's name recently emerged on a leaked short-list for the role, and according to Latino Review, Butterfield is now the frontrunner out of the five rumoured actors.

"Marvel had liked him since day one", a source told the publication.

Butterfield - best known for his roles in Ender's Game and Hugo - is reportedly facing off against Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars/Paper Towns), Tom Holland (The Impossible), Timothee Chalamet (Homeland) and Liam James (The Way, Way Back) to play the young Spidey, who will cameo in Captain America: Civil War before headlining a solo movie in 2017

:spock:

That kid looks YOUNG...

Deberg_1990 04-30-2015 04:35 PM

I'm down with that. He Definately has the rightly look about him.

I like that they are going young. Nice contrast to the more 'mature' Avengers

ThaVirus 04-30-2015 04:43 PM

I've always viewed Spidey as a younger dude anyway. In the Ultimate timeline he was like 15. I want to say the newest Spidey, Miles Morales, is even younger.

He is.

I'm not convinced they won't have Morales in the MCU over the next couple of movies...

They'll get killed if they do.

I saw Avengers 2 last night. Rotten Tomatoes has it down as 73% among top critics, which I feel is about right. It was good but not great as the first one was, and the movie had some problems. All in all, though, it was enjoyable.

Does anyone else just not see the MCU version of Tony Stark as a pro-registration, government lackey?

They've already set up Cap to be skeptical of the government so his role is solid.

I could definitely see SHIELD/Gubment offering Stark the job of rebuilding SHIELD "the right way" and him taking it, putting them at odds...

Stark was the one that led him down that path in the first place, though. Had he not planted the seed in Cap's head, he may have never gone snooping and found those Hydra-ish weapons.

I'm sure they'll pull it off. It was just a thought I had..

In the comics Stark's logic was that registration was inevitable, so if they were proactive they could at least be in control of it.

Please re-do all of these movies and make them awesome again. Blade wasn't bad....but it went downhill after the 1st one.
