God I hate this ****ing game.

I've lowered my index from 21 to 14 since March. My goal at the beginning of the year was to break 90, and I've done it 9 times including a career low 80.

The last two rounds have been a dumpster fire though. 92 and 99. I was so frustrated today I started hitting 3W off the tee regardless of the length of the hole. Started to play a bit better.

Anyone ever thought of benching the driver for good?

Before I had a TEE, I never had a three wood I hit well enough for it to be an option, save for when I was younger and a complete hacker and hit a Yonex 4 wood off of almost every tee.

I probably shouldn't hit a driver at the course where I play, simply because it only gets me into trouble. On a 370 yard Par 4, what's the difference between hitting a pitching wedge or lob wedge?

Two questions: 1) what is your driver, and 2) what is your issue with it off the tee?

Also, if you've only broken 90 nine times this year, a 92 isn't necessarily a dumpster fire, even though it is infuriating.

Shit, I've gone 38-48 so many times I should file for a patent on it.

My first thought is that you should track down a thriver, like the old Hi-Bore that was 13-15* or the Cobra Long Tom and change the shaft out in the POS.

Also, since you aren't the tallest guy in the world (no offense intended), maybe just put a 43" shaft in your driver.

OnTheWarpath15 08-02-2014 06:34 PM

When things are bad, I hit sweeping hooks with the driver.

I just picked up a TEE XCG6 3-wood and I nuke the piss out of it. Thinking of ditching the driver and picking up one of their 11.5 models.

Shortening the shaft in the driver is pointless, I'm already only 10 yards or so short with 3W. Hell, an 11.5 might be longer for me than driver.

OnTheWarpath15 08-02-2014 06:39 PM

Oh, and here's a PSA for y'all.

If you struggle with hitting fairway woods, get yourself a Tour Edge Exotics XCG6.

I hit a few three woods and a five wood better than anything in my life today. Forgiving and ridiculously hot. Stupid easy off the deck, and an absolute cannon off the tee.

OnTheWarpath15 08-02-2014 06:42 PM

And I'm 5'9" FFS. Not like I'm Peter Dinklage.

LMAO

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-02-2014 06:59 PM

I have an XCG-4 3 wood and bought an XCG-7 4 wood for 90 bucks on Thursday.

And I wasn't trying to bust your balls, but 5'9" w/ a 45-6" shaft has you hanging out there a ways. I'm 6'1 and I don't like 46" shafts.

No worries, I get it. I think my driver plays to a smidge over 45". Still too long to control.

Probably going to start scouring Ebay for a 11.5 XCG6.

TribalElder 08-03-2014 01:46 PM

Garcia is being Garcia and promptly gives up 2 of his 3 shot leave on the first two holes

he always seems to collapse on Sunday. Maybe he can shake it off and pull it out but I would guess rory is about to **** him on a glass table

TribalElder 08-03-2014 01:53 PM

LMAO sergio knocked a lady's diamond out of her ring

what a terrible break ROFL

Jerm 08-03-2014 01:54 PM

Tiger hurt again and another WD...he's steadily breaking down...

TribalElder 08-03-2014 01:57 PM

he didn't take enough time off to actually heal

11 weeks, he needed 11 months most likely

I think he is done being a competitor on the largest stages such as the major tourneys

OnTheWarpath15 08-03-2014 01:58 PM

He needs to shut it down, ditch Foley and start over in 2015.

OnTheWarpath15 08-03-2014 02:00 PM

Rory starts birdie-birdie-birdie and has sole possession of the lead.

Sergio being Sergio.

Troof. As my first boss told me decades ago: "Young men, there are women you date and there are women you marry. And never the twain shall cross." TROOF.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-03-2014 02:57 PM

Tiger's intentional popping of his lead knee to add speed to his swing is what ruined his body. That started the disintegration of his base of support that has continued to this day.

He may have played the best golf of his career with the perfectly parallel swing he had with Harmon, but, IMO, he should have stayed with the swing that was more across the line and upright. It was easier on his body and he was longer because he used gravity and leverage and not merely the unwinding of a top to generate speed.. The one area it hurt him was distance control with his irons, but even as a 20 year old, he had a great knockdown action.

Donger 08-04-2014 09:49 AM

I had my son take a video of me swinging yesterday. It looked pretty good. I get the club parallel with the ground on my back swing. The problem is that it's only parallel because I apparently only bring my club back to about a quarter swing.

LMAO

How on Earth do I fix that? I do have a bad back, but I had no idea that I only draw the club back that far.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-04-2014 01:24 PM

Most people, myself included, have backswings that are too long. TBH, it's too hard to diagnose the problems in your swing with just that info. Have a pro check it out.

Hootie 08-04-2014 06:56 PM

Shot a 39 at Stone Creek (where U of I) plays today. Best 9 ever. Spent the weekend with my uncle who's a golf pro and he fixed my entire game. Hit 4 300+ yard drives/fairways and sunk two birdies (missed an eagle putt by an inch). Had a par shot until I doubled the 9th after hitting a massive drive that I pulled ever so slightly into the water. I'm pleased.

only because I'm excited

OnTheWarpath15 08-04-2014 07:28 PM

You should be excited.

I broke 40 for nine for the first time this years as well. Shot a 39 and about two weeks later a 37.

Problem is I can't but two of those nines together.

Hootie 08-04-2014 07:40 PM

I spent Wednesday - Saturday getting lessons from my uncle up in Glen Arbor and I couldn't put it together over there since none of the lessons were really on a driving range so I couldn't test out what he was saying and really getting a grasp of it.

Got back to Illinois, bought 110 balls at the range. Sliced the absolute **** out of the first half.

Then I took a step back. He kept telling me I was getting ahead of the ball...he was dead right, I just couldn't figure out what he was meaning.

So I thought back to baseball...I watched the video, watched him swing...and I finally realized I wasn't extending my arms and it was causing my hands to be behind the ball which was causing me to stand up which was causing me to do all sorts of things wrong.

Started really extending my arms, my main swing thought...and suddenly I was just crushing the ball. The last 15 balls I hit 300+ dead straight...a few with a bit of a pull/hook.

Today...I had to hit one about 335 dead down the fairway on hole 2 (took a horrible lie on a sand trap rough where I had no shot...but it was the furthest I ever hit the ball)...

Par 5 I hit one about 330 that put me 170 from the pin and drilled it to within 10 feet.

This was the first time in my life that my driver was getting over 300. It was all due to me reverting back to baseball (I hit lefty) and just figuring out I needed to load up and extend my arms my uncle just couldn't quite find those words...really helped when I watched him and thought about what my baseball swing was back in the day.

I've spent a lot of time on my golf game this summer so my swing was good I just didn't have the right swing plane and swing thoughts...

gonna hit the range tomorrow at lunch and build on today...I've finally hit a breakthrough and am pretty thrilled.

Hootie 08-04-2014 07:41 PM

oh I golf righty by the way...

which is another thing my uncle suggested (trying lefty)...

but I've always golf righty which is super weird since I was a pretty good lefty in baseball and couldn't even fathom swinging a bat right handed.

As someone who plays 50+ rounds every year with two herniated disks between L4/L5 and L5/S1, I can tell you that it's a day-to-day thing.

Based on what I saw Sunday, and what I've experienced out on the course - it looked like a nerve impingement. You try to stay loose, but subconsciously you start making a different swing to protect it, and that starts the muscle spasms.

Obviously my situation is different from Tiger's, but I've been in massive pain after a round to the point of barely being able to walk - and after some electronic stimulation, a massage and a trip to the inversion table I'm usually good within 24-36 hours.

Unless you play golf with a really bad back, you'd never understand how it comes and goes out of nowhere.

Prison Bitch 08-07-2014 08:41 AM

So who is everybody picking in the PGA? Obv Rory and Adam Scott are on nearly every pundit's list. I guess I'll go with Keegan Bradley to win he's played well lately and has the length to win at that course, with Jimmy Walker as the dark horse.

I interrupt this thread with an update from the PGA championship.

Tiger. Tiger. Tiger. Tiger. Tiger. Tiger. Tiger.

Now back to regularly scheduled thread news.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-07-2014 09:14 AM

Nice snipe, Tiger.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-07-2014 12:19 PM

Gary Watson butchering the second hole. I'm sure he'll start bitching at his caddie or the crowd any minute

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-07-2014 02:26 PM

Yesterday Louis Oosthuizen won the PGA Long Drive with a poke of 340 yards. In 1963, Jack Nicklaus won.

With a drive of 341 yards.

OnTheWarpath15 08-09-2014 11:02 AM

Looking for a nice course to play in KC without breaking the bank.

We're definitely getting in a round or two at Sycamore Ridge, but are open to suggestions.

Stone Canyon seems to keep popping up, and you can get on there for $30-35 using GolfNow.

Anywhere else I should be considering?

Prison Bitch 08-09-2014 11:04 AM

No those two are fine. Maybe golf club of Kansas

TribalElder 08-09-2014 11:19 AM

Rory is clearly the world #1 right now. It's not even close.

****ing whores on glass tables or whatever he is doing he is balling out

Jerm 08-09-2014 11:23 AM

He's driving the ball as good if not better than I've ever seen anyone drive...when he's on his game he's unbeatable, circa Tiger 2000.

Also looks like Bubba has kept up the douchery in full effect this week...his act is wearing super thin, used to be a big fan but I'm quickly souring on him.

I liked that hook he hit around the corner to win the masters

Other than that I could give a **** less about him. The pink driver makes him a bit suspect

Prison Bitch 08-09-2014 12:28 PM

I hate to defend any athlete but the fans on Tour are really starting to get annoying. They constantly move around when guys are ready to hit and yell during shots. The worst being "mashed potato!" Which hit Sergio last weekend during a tee shot. I seriously doubt Europeans pull this act, I'd bet it's an exclusively American fan problem. "Get in the hole!" On a tee shot for a par 5? GTFO

Jerm 08-09-2014 12:42 PM

Agreed....the belligerent idiots trying to be funny or cute need to go.

Last year in the Accenture semis some buffoon was following Rory around and screaming "ONE TIME!" every tee shot, and sometimes mixing in "BOOM-Shakalaka!"

By about the 7th hole the announces noticed he was being removed from the grounds.

Holy shit you should play in our leagues ROFL

OnTheWarpath15 08-10-2014 07:27 AM

Today should be entertaining.

Rory's on quite the tear, and I'd be perfectly content with him winning, but...

Fowler has been a machine in the majors this year - I'd really like to see him finally break through.

Prison Bitch 08-10-2014 08:52 AM

Rory is quickly moving up my Hate List. Nothing personal really, but I'm sick of him winning. Golf and Tennis suck massive balls when someone dominates. I'm so glad I didn't become a Golf junkie until the end of Tiger's era because I'd never have watched the "Tiger Slam" years. Must've been awful.

Rickie, Phil, Stenson, Day would all be great stories. Unfortunately mop-head is going to ruin it.

kstater 08-10-2014 09:03 AM

Ought to be a fun afternoon. Wet track(hopefully no more rain), So fire away and go low to win probably.

Rory with a bogey. Now tied for the lead with Phil. Els and Fowler charging too. We may be looking at a shootout.

Phil is the man

TribalElder 08-10-2014 03:24 PM

He'll of a chip in by fowler

philfree 08-10-2014 04:20 PM

Just got back from the Price Cutter Charity Championship. Watched Percy sink the winning putt on 18. Pretty cool. My company supplies the scoring building so I had passes. I was kind of peeved that because there was a chance of rain this afternoon they had the players tee off both sides. The leaders were teeing off at 10:00 AM. That cheats the fans. Still sunny out with no rain in sight.

I have to give Percy credit for having some balls. He was tied for the lead playing the last hole and he drove it in the rough. With the ball below his feet in the rough he decided to go for it in two. He hit a good shot that was a little long but once over the hazard all he had to do was get up and down in 2. He did. Smart but ballsy play.

philfree 08-10-2014 04:46 PM

Go Ricky, go Phil anyone but Rory needle nose.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-10-2014 04:59 PM

McIlroy's second was as lucky of a shot as you'll ever see. A high draw player hits a low yank that stays in the fairway and rolls to eight feet

This is a great tourney

They are all bunched up,at the top

Hope Phil or Ricky beat the people from over the pond
