Heads exploding in Chicago as I type....

Probably just doing this to screw with the Cubs. Hopefully this is not a serious inquiry.

Hopefully. Don't need any more Cubs taint on the team.

I'd prefer Maddon from the Rays but realize that's probably not happening.

I'd buy a Sandberg jersey that day.

Honestly - I kinda like the idea. Ryno, as much as I hated him, was the embodiment of a 'Cardinal' ballplayer. He was gritty, he was hardnosed and he played the game right.

Francona was not very good as an NL manager in his first stop and I'm not sure his brand of "Set it and forget it" managing would play as well in the National League, especially when he doesn't have the endless resources of the Boston Payroll at his disposal.

I like Francona, don't get me wrong. I also like Maddon. But I won't be at all upset if Sandberg's the guy either.

The Cards have every advantage in the world here.

(Now watch them promote Oquendo....{ugh})

Not necessarily a Cubs taint. By all accounts Sandberg is a good person, but he has never won anything. He spent his whole career with the Cubs. St. Louis expects their managers to win, it is a different mindset and expectation.

And that Cubs taint does smell like dog ass in the dugout too

Quick check-in to say congrats to all Cards fans on a remarkable end to the season. From 10 1/2 back to WS champs? Unbelievable sports story.

I thought that Albert would get it. He led all first basemen in range factor by quite a margin.

OK, it's over guys. Time to start the 2012 thread and let this one die... kthx! :-P

There was a good amount of outrage that Ryno isn't the current Cubs manager. From all accounts, he has done extremely well at every coaching stop thus far. I am with others and would prefer Maddon or Francona but Ryno wouldn't be bad.

I'm at least honest enough to know I'd like Oquendo as an alternative if he came from outside the organization.

I just feel like the organization needs a new voice right now. Oquendo is a battlefield promotion of sorts. There's a reason the military doesn't allow those guys to lead their former troops - there's something of a 'substitute teacher takes over' mentality to it, IMO.

I just don't think it would end well for Jose or the Cardinals. I also think the Cardinals could hire a guy like Oquendo (or his rough equivalent) whenever they wanted whereas right now, they can shoot for the moon given where the franchise is at the moment.

Oquendo just seems like a blah pick with more potential downside than upside to me. I think he'll make a good manager somewhere, but somewhere where he's a fresh voice and a new set of eyes. Hell, maybe that's STL in 10 years, but not right now. Right now they need to inject some new energy lest they have a MASSIVE post-season hangover.

Eckstein's an idiot.

First, Albert hasn't come this far just to take a hometown discount if they name the 3rd base coach manager.

Second, Mo is a ****ing reerun if he gives the manager job to someone solely based on what Pujols wants.

Personally, I think Eck's talking out of his ass.

How many times you think Eck and Albert have even discussed it? Very few if any at all I'd bet.

Probably just using as leverage in case they try to sign pujols we can match one fan favorite for another.
