The reason why Stanzi doesnt start is because he is mentally lost out there. He does have all the physical tools.

Good luck with that, Peenbook. |
Something The Bad Guy said has stuck with me and festered.
He said that the deal for Alex Smith was drawn up a couple weeks before the combine and finalized after the combine and after the Chiefs talked with Alex. Alex said after he was traded here that he would need to earn an extension. Maybe the talk they had with him was that the only guarantee they were giving him was that he would start in 2013 and that they wouldn't guarantee anything else. Alex knows this is a business...I bet he is expecting them to draft another quarterback. |

The answer to why you keep him is simple, but one I don't think you'll understand. His contract. He's in year 3 of his 4 year contract. It won't cost a whole lot to cut him, not that much against the cap, but we're already getting damned close to the cap as it is, ironically enough. Believe it or not, we have to keep guys like Stanzi on our roster (Guys already signed to cheap contracts) to go out there and bring in the Alex Smith's, the Sean Smiths, and so forth. We can't just go out there and sign the best talent at every position at every hole on our roster, we'd spend twice our cap trying to pull that off. Truth is, we don't know what Stanzi has, but there wasn't much doubt in the coach's mind that he was better than Cassel, and Pioli denied him that opportunity multiple times. Quote:
When he was given his opportunity to start, Pioli signed Orton and started him. In 2012, he was buried beneath Pioli's guy, and Romeo's guy. He'd have never gotten a shot last year. |

I bet he is too, but not this year. |
How do we know "there wasn't much doubt in the coaches mind" Stanzi was better than Cassel?
All those starts Stanzi got? Posted via Mobile Device |

I never said I would make the same trade today, either you bitch ass liar. You know, I understood the whole situation with you and your wife and how you need to vent. I understood it when you apologized to me for the way you had been acting. Then, you decided to go right back to full blown BlackBob and derailing every thread with your bullshit. If it makes you feel better to bring up 3 year old conversations/discussions about a player I overvalued because he played for a college I used to watch a lot of, so be it. At one point though, your apologies will fall on deaf ears because it's obvious the way you speak to me outside of the lounge isnt the real Dane and that the two faced, blowhard, ignorant fool that decides to take unneeded personal shots at me here are your true colors. It's a shame, really, I once thought you were a man of principle, integrity and character...I guess I was wrong. |

Then 2012 happened and both Pioli and Romeo had "their guy" on the roster, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the math here. Simply put, Stanzi makes the 2013 roster, there isn't a shred of sense right now suggesting we should do anything different. |
Romeo never said Stanzi would start and Orton was here before Cassels injury.
