It was still fun as hell to watch.

Yeah, I see the game go along on social media and if its close, turn the game on. Same thing with a close NFL game or NCAA game. Doesn't matter who it is, just like seeing the sports drama and the competition.

I just dont have the hours and hours to watch all the sports I'd like to watch.:)

Quite a bit of difference rooting for the Astros vs something like those teams listed.

Because those teams have won multiple titles AND are in the same conference as the Chiefs.

The Astros have never done much of anything, have exciting players they drafted and developed and are playing a large payroll team similar to the New York Yankees with a fanbase just as likeable.

Rooting down conference lines is a much too simple view of sports as a whole.

Also helps that we beat the Astros in the playoffs on our way to our 2nd World Series title. Hard to hate those guys

LA sports radio will be quite interesting this morning.

I'm not seeing a way that the Dodgers come back from this. Even if we somehow win Game 6, and I don't see that with Verlander in there, we have to go to Darvish in Game 7. We all saw how that worked out in Game 3.

Another year of playoff letdowns as a Dodgers fan. Oh ****ing joy. Can't wait for the "Houston needed this!" headlines.

A Salt Weapon 10-30-2017 09:27 AM

The dodgers are resilient though, I’ll give them that. Astros are showin they are too, I thought last nights game was over at 4-0, and really over at 7-4. Then when Astros took a 3 Run lead at the end I thought the dodgers were done for sure, lol, hard to win 2 of 2 but they are at home. Should be fun to watch.

I don't know if it brings bragging rights, but I think your viewpoint is a bit skewed here. The Royals, despite a terrible 30 year stretch, are still one of the best expansion teams in the history of baseball. 9 playoff appearances, 4 World Series appearances, 2 World Series wins. There aren't many teams that have done better, certainly not among the other "expansion" teams that came in once baseball started expanding in the 60s.

If you take a look at the last 40 years of baseball, which is most of our lifetimes... the only American League teams that have done absolutely better than that are the Yankees and Red Sox. I don't believe anyone else in the AL even has more than 4 appearances and 2 titles in that stretch. There are teams like the White Sox, that have been around since 1901, that have the same number of playoff appearances as the Royals. The Phillies have been around since 1883 and they have 2 titles.

And that doesn't even go into the fact that Kansas City is one of the smallest markets in the sport that usually punishes small markets the most.

Since the Royals became a franchise in 1969...

American League World Series Winners
7 - Yankees
4 - A's
3 - Red Sox
2 - Royals, Orioles, Blue Jays, Twins
1 - Tigers, Angels, White Sox

American League World Series Apperances
11 - Yankees
6 - A's
5 - Red Sox, Orioles
4 - Royals
3 - Indians, Tigers
2 - Blue Jays, Rangers, Twins
1 - Astros, Rays, White Sox, Angels, Brewers

Not bad. Especially compared to the other expansion teams. When the Royals came in there wasn't free agency like there is now, so you couldn't pull a Dbacks or Marlins.

As for how the Astros did it, don't blame them for a recipe that appears to be working.

You ****ing suck.

Go take your anger out on someone who actually cares about your stupid, old, white ass.

I want every team that's not the Chiefs or Royals to lose every game in their conference, forever and ever.

I don't have "sympathy" for other fan bases or cities. That doesn't appeal to me. I don't "root" for other teams to win, just because they've been terrible forever.

That's just the way I roll.

For a comparison just look at the Cardinals during that same stretch compared to Royals.

7 World Series Appearances for the Cardinals
4 World Series Appearances for the Royals

3 World Series Championships for the Cardinals
2 World Series Championships for the Royals

I like the Astros and their fans. I remember after the White Sox beat them in the World Series. A couple of Astro fans saw the WGN crew there and came over to congratulate Chicago and their champions. Very classy. Astros have had lots of great players over the years and some tough losses. I am glad to see this incredible group of current Astro players and their smart and classy manager doing well.

Regarding the slick baseballs and the seeming inability of guys to throw a decent slider with them, don't the umpires or someone sit in a room before the game rubbing them up with super secret special mud anymore? Am I running a few decades behind here?

They still do. The pitchers on both sides are claiming that the ball still feels different than the regular season ball.

I'm sorry you have no compassion Dane. Do you sleep at night?!

But once the Chiefs/Royals are eliminated, I pick a rooting interest for a variety of reasons. While I largely dislike many more AL teams, there will definitely be matchups where I will definitely root against a disliked NL team (See LA and Cubs as the main ones).

Having a rooting interest, at least slightly, makes the playoffs more enjoyable.
