I still don't think so.

A) There's nothing in it the farm system anyway.
B) Teams aren't going ham for Coors hitters anymore, especially not those with an injury history and massive home/rd splits.

8/185; a tick over $23 million/yr.

I just can't get too bent out of shape over losing the guy at that figure.

They'll lose at least one of them and I expect they'll lose 2.

I'd prefer they not, but I don't think they'll sit pat.

ChiefsCountry 12-11-2015 01:50 PM

And they had opt outs in that contract

Baffeling to me that he would get that. Dude is a $17MM per year player. You could over pay a few million but not $6MM+ per year.

It's going to depend on how much backloading and when those opt outs are, then.

I suppose the terms will tell the tale. By all accounts the Cardinals were aggressive so I can't imagine they'll be terribly team friendly.

Like I said - I just don't care. He's not a franchise altering player.

jd1020 12-11-2015 02:04 PM

8/184, first opt out after year 3.

Marco Polo 12-11-2015 02:40 PM

Glad it's over. Now go sign Upton/Davis and get a SP like Cueto (that doesn't cost a pick). We are still a 80~ win team. Cubs are going to be scary good for a while. Better us getting used to it. Now Cards front office better start getting more aggressive in time with the arms race.

kcpasco 12-11-2015 03:08 PM

Maybe Dewitt can buy a small island with the amount of available cash he will pocket this upcoming season. But to be fair I will give them the benefit of the doubt unless they start to suck.

Gotta laugh at some of the Card fans on Twitter having a breakdown. Sucks to lose Heyward buts it's not like we lost Pujols in his prime.

Damn if he gets better he hits the FA market again at 29. If he sucks, he is set for life.

Ya 2 opt outs is insane.

ChiefsCountry 12-11-2015 03:33 PM

Opts out I bet where the deal breaker

Upton's hot and cold streaks would drive me insane.

Look at what has happened to salaries in the last year. What if this continues for another 3 years? Don't blame him for taking the opt-outs.
