Spieth with another birdie. Down 2 with three to play. Still alive.

Golfers are such pussies. Spieth bitching for them having a camera in his face

Bob Dole 04-10-2016 05:20 PM

That was some expensive water.

ChiefsCountry 04-10-2016 05:24 PM

Spieth looks like he just wants to dig a hole and jump into it.

ROFL. I can't imagine trying to golf with some dude chasing you around the course with a camera on you continually

O.city 04-10-2016 07:04 PM

It's shitty to jam a camera in these dudes face right after stuff like that.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-10-2016 10:04 PM

Really sad, but he got two majors before any real heartbreak. Think about all of those moments Norman endured to win only two, and never at Augusta.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is commit to a shot when you don't trust your swing, and it happened to him twice on 12.

KC_Connection 04-10-2016 10:58 PM

Spieth was a relative mess all week other than his short game. It didn't surprise me that he eventually faltered, but the way that he did it was pretty incredible.

That's five straight top 4 finishes in majors, so I'm sure he'll be right back at it at Oakmont. Better have his swing figured out by then, though.

I know he explained it away, but I didn't understand the drop he took after the first water ball.

Or first, why he's trying to hit a cut into that pin in the first place

1) Probably a combination of panic and liking his yardage and angle better than what he had from the drop zone.

Having a five shot lead and going bogey-bogey-drink would throw anyone into a tailspin.

2) Tried to get too cute. The play on 12 is to accept hitting it in the back bunker instead of trying to throw one in tight. There just isn't enough space.

He's still a great player and he'll likely win several more majors, but it's the law of averages balancing things out a little bit. How many other guys double bogey the 71st hole in the US Open and then have their competitor three putt from eight feet to hand them the trophy? With as fortunate as he was last year something like this was bound to happen.

Hoopsdoc 06-19-2016 08:28 AM

So, can Lowry finish it off today? I tend to think he'll come back to the pack at some point. The pressure and the course are just to much.

I'd love to see the old war horse Westwood win one.

Lee Westwood is the chokingest bitch in the history of chokingest bitches.

This seems like the kind of major that a decent, but not great player wins. Broken up by weather, the course playing much easier than it normally does, and great players not playing well.

Overall, this has been a really disappointing US Open, much in the vein of the last two.

I just am not a fan of the Mike Davis US Open setups.

tk13 06-19-2016 02:21 PM

None of the big names near the top really have a reputation as a closer. Dustin Johnson, Westwood, and now Furyk and Sergio are making a charge. Lowry's got a good shot at this if he just plays steady.

DJ's amazing. He bombs it way down the fairway, then hits a mediocre-to-bad wedge and makes par.

Also, this open is as good as any other. Maybe you're just disappointed that Tiger, Phil, Rory, and many of the other big names aren't in it.

The golf itself is classic US Open golf.

FOX is only showing the top 3 in the bottom corner, but with Lowry coming back and Johnson in 2nd, all those guys at -1 are still in it.

This is not classic US Open golf. The starch has been out of the greens and they are much softer than a traditional US Open green complex. Usually you have to hit shots 12-18 yards short of the pin and run them into the hole, but these greens will take long and mid irons with no issues.

Spieth gave away *a* major, has won two, and has a couple of top 3s aside from that. Westwood has been in contention in over a dozen majors and has always managed to collapse. The two are not remotely similar.

That link required me to state which content provider I use (Dish) and log in to my Dish account, unfortunately.

DeChambeau has the funkiest swing this side of Craig Parry.

KC_Connection 06-19-2016 03:42 PM

DJ has no real excuse not to win this tournament, so he'll probably find some way to lose again.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 03:50 PM

I hate this rule. Guy hits an absolute horrible tee shot and he's going to get bailed out with a perfect lie.

Ernie Els won the '94 US Open here on a similar type of bullshit ruling.

tk13 06-19-2016 04:37 PM

And here comes the Dustin Johnson controversy. Possible penalty stroke on a putt. But it hasn't been officially declared yet. Sounds like he'll find out after his round is over. This could be a cluster.

tk13 06-19-2016 04:41 PM

I'd have to look at the replay again, but if he grounded his club behind the ball, then took a practice stroke at the ball moved, then he should be penalized according to rule.

However, I would say that it's karma for the bullshit he pulled off on 10. He claimed line of sight relief and ended up with a perfect lie when he was deep in the rough when he obviously didn't need it, because he flew the ball right over the tower.

If he ends up getting penalized, it will have been deserved, because hitting that shot on 10 after that ruling was a cheesedick move.

Also:

The USGA asked Dustin Johnson what else could have caused his ball to move on the 5th green. Johnson did not give an answer to that which is why after his round, the USGA will take DJ to watch the video and decide if he gets a one shot penalty.

I love this. Way to tell em rory. I can't believe that after all the time, money and hype for this tournament, they can't just make a decision and move on. Johnson has to add this to the pressure already on him? Bullshit.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 04:52 PM

Look, the same thing happened to Lowry yesterday and he took the penalty stroke. The issue here is with the USGA's timing and delivery of the message. If Johnson grounded his club behind the ball and it moved, he should be assessed the penalty stroke.

FWIW, there is a reason why players will hover their clubheads over delicate lies, and it has to do with situations like this.

tk13 06-19-2016 04:53 PM

Sergio buried one in the bunker about as much as you'll see. You could barely even see the ball.

MahiMike 06-19-2016 04:53 PM

Yes, that is unfortunate, but it is the only sport where you assess penalties on yourself. Golf requires integrity, and Johnson could solve this quandary quickly by saying, "Yes, I soled the club and the ball moved or, "I did not ground the club and it moved due to the slope and speed of the greens."

It is on Johnson to determine whether or not this happened.

Discuss Thrower 06-19-2016 05:03 PM

Conspiracy theory:

With the big names out of it, FOX / USGA has drummed up controversy through using the rule change concerning balls moving at address to generate increased views, and perhaps more importantly in the long run, something to spark discussion and therefore future interest in other events.

tk13 06-19-2016 05:09 PM

And Jason Day implodes. He could've knocked in a birdie or two he'd given himself and outside shot.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:10 PM

No one wants to win this tournament.

tk13 06-19-2016 05:17 PM

Dropping like flies now. Piercy misses a par putt. Jim Furyk's score is legitimately in play now.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:20 PM

He should not have taken his practice strokes that close to the ball. That looks like a penalty stroke to me, but I don't think they'll assess it.

tk13 06-19-2016 05:28 PM

And Lowry chokes another par putt.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:28 PM

Lowry putting like a 19 handicap. This is Johnson's tournament to lose.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:31 PM

This is why I don't like majors where marginal golfers are at the top of the leaderboard, because they always end up choking their ****ing dicks off the entire final round.

TribalElder 06-19-2016 05:34 PM

Usga and their stroke penalty might decide this one

KC_Connection 06-19-2016 05:39 PM

Didn't see DJ making that one. Maybe he will finally win one.

tk13 06-19-2016 05:41 PM

Man, I didn't realize what happened to Westwood today. +11. Yikes.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:45 PM

Shane Lowry has a heart made of vagina meat.

KC_Connection 06-19-2016 05:46 PM

Lowry has been just terrible in this round. Can't make a putt or an approach shot.

tk13 06-19-2016 05:48 PM

Jim Furyk working his way up the leaderboard! :)

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:51 PM

Par will win the Open for Johnson, regardless of the penalty shot, because there is no way that Lowry will birdie 17 and 18.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:54 PM

12-17 is the easiest stretch of the golf course and Lowry is going to play it several shots over par. What a choking bitch.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-19-2016 05:58 PM

That shot was clutch.

KC_Connection 06-19-2016 05:59 PM

That'll do it. DJ wins his 1st, can't imagine it will be his last either.
