Don't know much about him. But players from other parts of the country might look twice at MU when they come calling if they played KU in a final and it was hyped like it should be. Not saying it gives MU a leg up on other schools, but it can't hurt.

Ultra Peanut 03-12-2012 03:44 PM

A Mizzou-Kansas title game would be p darn awesome

Well considering it will take a final four appearance for them to meet, I’m guessing Frank would take his chances on this somehow hurting MU’s recruiting.

Ha!

Okay, so my friends and I have been having the "SEC Championship or Final 4" debate the last couple of weeks. Now I think it's time for an even tougher question:

If going to the Final 4 meant that we lost to Kansas, who would then go on to win the Championship, whereas losing in the Sweet 16 meant that KU lost to St. Mary's, would you still want the Final 4?

Good lord, man - the losing to Kansas would almost definitely take all the starch out of making it there, wouldn't it? And once they won the title on top of that, it would just be pissing all over our bowl of soggy cornflakes wouldn't it?

Honestly - I think I'd rather just not make the Final 4 than to go to it and lose to Kansas. The hell would never end.

I'd take the final four ...then we could always hang it over ku's head that they never would have won the 2012 championship had we not agreed to it on a bulletin board

I know a Jayhawk fan who said the same thing about losing to Missouri.

I tend to agree with you but damn the excitement leading up to such a match-up.One thing's for sure, either I or my mrs would be taking a seperation vacation afterwards.

I think most KU and MU fans, if they were being honest with themselves, would all say the same thing.

"If going to the Final 4 means I'd lose to those assholes, count me out..."

Especially after the bad blood of this season.

As a KU guy who’s wife and many friends are MU fans, I certainly understand the quandary. The fact there is some permanency to this season makes it worse. The fact that MU won the Big 12 tournament bothers me not at all. Had we lost it to MU in the final game It would have been quite annoying.

I dunno, Mizzou losing early really doesn't do much for me, and isn't really a consolation for not making it to the Final Four (not that I expect KU to make it that far).... "well at least Mizzou lost early, too!" Meh. They could make it to the Final Four for all I care. If KU makes it to the SS or EE, and Mizzou doesn't get as far, I'm not going to hang my hat on getting a round or two further.

But, getting all the way to the NC game just to lose to Mizzou... yeah, that's definitely not cool, especially since MU won "the most important football game ever" between the two schools... so, to also do it in basketball, on their way out of the Big 12... damn.

Seriously? Although the thought of losing to KU in the championship game is disgusting, I'd take the FF over a S16 loss every time.

The exposure for the program and what it could do for recruiting offsets the los, IMO.

To answer DJ's question...give me a final four. I don't care who else is there or if Mizzou loses by 80 when they get there. Willing to take my chances.

A final four makes this Mizzou team the greatest in its history....

Here is a twist on your question for us Mizzou fans..which would you rather have:

One final four appearance ever...but it is a national championship over Kansas....

or

Losing to KU in the championship game, but Mizzou goes to multiple final fours and does win one national championship during the rest of Frank Haiths tenure, approximately 15-20 years.

As much as I would hate to lose to KU, I would take the latter in a heartbeat.

I concur. I thought they were UNC. I don't like the fact that it has my Wildcats getting bounced on Thursday and if I had to pick one team other than Kentucky to get to New Orleans it would be Mizzou, but as as unpredictable as this tournament always is, I just put that one in a $20 per bracket pool. I almost never do more than one bracket, but figured WTF.

*I think if everything falls right they have a decent shot against Syracuse

I think KSU could be a nightmare for Syracuse. Syracuse has been a horrible rebounding team all year, it is their Achilles heel. I could see the Cats pounding them on the boards and win a low scoring defensive type game.

Two things:

1) Devonta Pollard WAS, in fact, on campus today. (DeArmond heard he wasn't from Rivals national guy, but then heard from his own sources that he was).

2) I think Kansas State could give Syracuse a really hard time. They rebound the bad really well, a weakness for the Orange. And the pick-post offensive set is a nightmare for 2-3 zones.

My head says the latter, but my heart says the former.

Good God - leaving the IIX with a national title taken directly from the beak of the buckled bird is just too much to pass up.

I mean let's face it 'ever' is a long damn time; I'll be senile or beyond caring by the time the 3rd championship rolls around if they only show up every 20 years or so. As such, I'm really only missing out on 1.

Then again...I could watch that one with my kid or something, which would be pretty sweet...

Eh, !@#$ it, the world's gonna end in December anyway - gimme my Beaker title.

I'm just ready for the games to start. This is as excited as I've ever been for the tournament.

I know it's crushing if you lose, but I'm all in... this is what it's all about, and I love this Mizzou team.

Ultra Peanut 03-13-2012 09:34 AM

Agreedo. This is as pumped as I've been since 2009. Considering Memphis went to the NIT in '10 and only got in because of the autobid in '11, that's not saying a ton, but I am so excited to see what this team can do.

I was so impressed by the team's talent early in the year, especially with the way they dismantled Belmont. Then things fell apart during/after Maui, and for a while I was honestly worried about the bottom falling out on the program, but watching them put it all together and start playing terrifyingly good basketball has been one of the most fun experiences I've ever had as a fan.

No pushover, but I think I read that they lost their top rebounder due to injury. I think it is the type of game that Mizzou can rebound and out run them, especially if they try to match Mizzou. Tough one, but not a scary one.

What is the Vegas line on UVA/Florida? Seems like the prognosticators are about 60/40 Florida in the various brackets, so it is not a slam dunk Florida gets there, although I think they will, since UVA has been struggling the last six weeks or so.

What's his record with these things?

He picked Kansas to win the title in the previous two years, then had to watch the Jayhawks lose early both times.

But he picked UNC to win it all. Not sure how he is on overall picks.

Not very many upsets in his bracket. He pretty much kept to the seedings. No #1's or #2's losing till the elite eight, except for Duke, which he has losing to the Baylor. I would not call that a huge upset.

Anyone else check out the CBS College Hoops Confidential episode on Mizzou last night? It was damn good.

Does that include the Ecokat special features?

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with a KSU fan throwing KU smack at Mizzou fans?

It's a Kansas thing.
