It'd be hard to overtake the Tigers. But there's two wildcards . . . :hmm:

duncan_idaho 12-10-2012 11:49 AM

Random thought re: Shields...

If I'm willing to go 6 years, $90 million on Anibal Sanchez, who's two years younger than Shields...

What am I willing to offer Shields as an extension to his current two-year deal? That makes him the same age as Sanchez when it's all over?

Not that the Royals would do it, or Shields would, but I was trying to think of a number that makes sense.

2 years, $35 million?

Would bring his four years in KC (hypothetical) to 4 years, $60 million.

Contrary to popular belief, pitching was not the only problem with the Royals last year.

IMO they dont walk enough and dont hit good enough with men on base. We have to pray that Hosmer and Moose develop.

Moose is coming on better than Hosmer. But you are correct about the rest. We hit into way too many DP's, could not advance runners and definitely did not walk enough, e.g. Frenchy.

Re: Bubba Starling... those expecting him to replace Frenchy in RF are either going to be disappointed or asking for 2-3 more years of Frenchy after this one.

Because Starling is starting the season at Low-A ball. He's at LEAST 2 years away, even in the most optimistic setting.

Hell, they're more than 16 wins better in the STARTING PITCHING ALONE.

Not if you go by his second-half numbers. He was DREADFUL.

Bonifacio's closer (theoretically).

Presser and not one question about RF.

God, what a sentence.

IS IT SPRING YET!?

GloryDayz 12-10-2012 11:56 AM

Hey, at least I got to See Frank White at Hy-Vee on Saturday. He was good! He was smiling, that was nice to see...

I'd love to get excited, but I have to remind myself that no matter how cool the car is, the person driving has to be good too. I'm left wondering what our drivers can do with this talent. Add to it that Glass too has proven through actions (not words) that he hates Kansas City, and you get the impression there might be another turn-1 wreck.

Wow, one click = 2 posts... Cool!

LOL, removing one of them!

No surprise, the Twitter world hates what the Royals just did.

So do the Tigers.

Different reasons, obviously. Twitter loves prospects and loves the Rays. Twitter thinks Wil Myers will be a star.

The Tigers look at James Shields and think that the Royals just became a real threat in the American League Central.

Twitter thinks the Royals "gave up a lot." The Tigers know that two teams that "gave up a lot" just met in the World Series.

As one Tigers person after another whispered during last week's winter meetings, "I just hope they don't get Shields."

They just did, and that's why when I texted one Tigers official with news of Sunday night's big trade, his response consisted of one word that I can't repeat here.

Rest assured, it wasn't "Great!"

I think Royals fans have become so used to thinking about the "future" that they dramatically overvalue potential.

The Royals might fail to make the playoffs but if Myers never amounts to shit (which is entirely possible) this trade is not a failure.

If the Royals can't make the playoffs these next two years, it's an epic fail. Myers was of course the gem that the Rays wanted, but that's not taking into account giving up Odo or Montgomery. That was a ton of talent we could have used for years to come, as compared to the two year rental we have on Shields right now.

I like that we have a rotation now, I really do. Put it has to pay off fast for the trade to be a win for the Royals.

Interesting note -

Jayson Stark said Myers is the only player in MLB to have won Minor League Player of the Year, but never played for the big league club he was with.
