good eating if my memory serves me correct

I made an error; Kabuki is my Japanese place where I live now. The place I frequented in KC was Gojo's.

Isn't that the place in Westport?

You don't have to be different or unique, but it DOES help if you, as the owner/operator of an independent steak house, get to maintain tight quality control on the beef you use, and if you can get it within the state of Missouri or Kansas.

As opposed to having the good 'ol Sysco Truck pull up and drop off a pallet of semi-frozen nonsense from God knows where.

It's been 14 years so there's pretty much no chance of it still being true today, but the best steak I ever had in KC was, ironically enough, at the Colony Lobster Pot when they were in Westport.
Cooked medium-rare to perfection, and no knife required.

my buddy had a filet at Pierpont's 2 weeks ago and cut it with his fork.

Out of towners need to avoid Westport past midnight. Word to the wise.

There are several places that have cash games of trivia on or by westport. The flee market has trivia on Wednesdays and the brick has trivia tonight if anyone is down.

No offense, but for being such a quality beef town, I've been severly disappointed with the cheeseburgers in KC.

P Otts serves a quality big-ass burger, and their condiment bar is better than the Flea.

I actually worked part-time at the Flea in 97, so I've seen how it all goes down in the kitchen.

Cool-I'll check that one out-I appreciate it.

I hate big steak.

Well...not really. Texas Roadhouse actually has some fresh cuts, I think they do a fine job on their Ribeyes; pretty good steak. That's where I draw the line on most chain places though, Outback and Lonestar suck, Longhorn's passable but not great.

I love the Majestic downtown, really nice place to relax and grab a good meal.

Em Chamas in the northland is a fun place for a group, but you'll likely end up feeling like balls afterward. SKIP THE LAMB, focus on the boneless rib steak, the house special sirloin, the kabobs, the provelone stuffed brisket and the wrapped beef tenderlion. Try some of each, let 'em know which you like the best and they'll just keep bringing it. It's truly stellar.
