Is it possible we picked up Orton just to trade him to Chicago (who I heard actually wanted Orton but we were higher on the waiver order?). If we get a draft pick out of signing Orton, it's actually a ****ing brilliant move.

The only positive I see in this is Orton will show how shitty Cassel is and maybe convince them to move on.

Not with the way Kyle Orton is playing. Denver will have the best QB on the field 85% of the time this year, that alone will carry us to wins.

This is probably right. The only thing that's really obvious from this is 1) they want to win now and 2) they just don't feel Stanzi has shown that he's ready to start.

I'm not sure it means we won't draft a 1st round QB. This move only gets us through the next 6 weeks, nothing beyond that. It's entirely possible they see Stanzi as the future and want to give him his entire rookie year to learn... or maybe Orton comes in with pretty much no training camp and shows up Cassel.

I actually think it's interesting because they've taken a risk that could easily make the "franchise" QB everyone believes they're in love with expendable. Today could very well be a sign that the Cassel era is over.
