You're not going to bring in any premier coach when that coach has no power over personnel acquisition. Pioli has all the cards, and premier coaches want that ability themselves.

Under the Chiefs' current arrangement, you're really only going to get the coaching version of a game manager. Much like a baseball manager.

Crennel is really the only serious coaching option on the horizon who is comfortable with that arrangement. All others will want to sculpt the team in their image. Pioli in this regards is the anti-Carl.

It has its positives and detriments. A positive is that your team isn't starting over from ridiculous extremes every few years or so when a new coach comes in, leaving your team mired in constant transition.

The detriment is that these are the kind of hires you're going to get. Less cerebral coaches who aren't gurus, just effective managers of provided talent.

Haley MUST'VE been hampering Cassel's development. That late offense surge must've had more to do with the firing of the HC rather than the change at QB.
