The BCS formula is still just a collection of polls, isn't it?

Yes, but it's augmented by a computer formula that...well...I'm not sure who runs that or how...

I just googled it, and it looks like the computers assisted third of the formula is still just a poll. There is really nothing worth complaining about. Every point that can be brought up is easily dismissed by pointing out that the people who vote on this crap can take that point into consideration when voting.

For now it's 2 polls (coaches & harris) and then the computer ranking (which is comprised of 6 separate rankings), each counting for 1/3 of the BCS.

When they move to the 4-team format in 2014 there will no longer be a BCS rankings. They haven't announced/decided how it will be done but it sounds like they will have a selection committee comprising of AD's, university presidents, and some at-large members.

I don't care about fun. If you want fun & exciting then go watch the college basketball tournament which crowns a tournament champion that sometimes turns out to be the best team.

What matters to me (and most people clamoring for a playoff) is that the best teams play for a championship and settle it on the field. A 24-team field is just asinine.

How are those rankings tabulated? And a selection committee is still a group of people ranking the teams.

All the more reason to include BOTH A&M AND Georgia.

But it is ok for Divsion II-III football players to play that many games.

Especially when Division 3 athletes are depending on ACADEMICS to get them through school, not a football scholarship.

It's a horrible double standard.

FCS does that.

And LSU (?) who lost to Bama & Florida but beat A&M and USCe.

Could you imagine how much people would flip if half or more than half of an 8-team playoff is made up of SEC teams? It's be hilarious.

I agree. I also think playing 16 games is too many for any student athlete. Not sure how they got to that format in Div 1 FCS or any other division. In Div 1 FCS, they still play up to eleven games BEFORE the 24-team playoff.

The logistics are much more involved for NCAA. For starters, the average attendance during the 19 FCS playoff games this year was less than 13,500 compared to top FBS teams that get 90,000+ attendance. Ticket sales, staffing, organization is significantly more complex. There would also be schedule conflicts with teams that share a stadium with a professional team(s).
