The biggest problem, IMO, with Cinci chili is that they call it chili.

Been hitting those places since I was a boy. LOVE the Chili 5 ways and their shakes. Also, used to hit Gold Star Chili in Northern Kentucky when I was driving through. Never really got the whole cinnamon in chili thing, but a chili dog smothered in that weird chili and cheese was, indeed, a unique experience. :)

Hell, since we're being honest here - I could tear the hell out of White Castle after a Friday night win in High School football....back in the day, those assholes used to charge a dime to take a piss. Never understood that, either until I saw bums hanging out in the johns.......

In high school my buddy's mom was the manager at white castle, we would **** that shit up.

Met the red hot chili peppers at white castle in armourdale after their concert once, they even let us kids chill on their bus for a bit.

Whew. The ketchup makes it better? Now I'm concerned. ROFL

it's just that's it's chili-powder'ey - and it needs some tangy sweetness to complete it's culinary touch.

Skyline is a worthy rationale to avoid Ohio altogether.

Hmm. Never had the cinnamon. Cloves and allspice yes. Baker's chocolate as well. At least, that is not how my mom makes it and she is a Cinci native.

Yeah, both Skyline and Gold Star (basically) the same recipe. Yes, there is allspice and cloves but there is also cinnamon in the recipe - the last time I was through there (some 15 years ago) the guy doing the cooking was taking a smoke break and I asked "what the hell was in that stuff" :)

I mean, it's not terrible or anything - but it most DEFINITELY takes some getting used to. Wattery as hell.....but still great on a dog with cheese.

A little off-topic but I had the pleasure of meeting Flea about 5 years ago. One of the most gracious guys I ever met.

There are differences in Country and Chicken Fried Steak. I think most people are thinking Chicken looking at the pictures posted.

You know....now that you mention it....if you look at it just right....it DOES resemble the aftermath of a rough night on the town.....When I was in Viet Nam, we would refer to that as the Vietnamese two-step.

Like what? Chicken & Country are interchangeable terms. I've seen it served with brown gravy before but either name is still used.

Simply Red 01-01-2015 11:13 AM

I only tried SC in a can - I didn't know what it was that I had bought.

Honestly the broth (if you even want to call it broth) resembled shitty Brunswick Stew flavor - which is very popular down here in GA. I never like Brunswick Stew at all!
