I think so.
When its all said and done and the Chiefs finish with 8-10 wins, maybe a one and done road game, the main blame will go to Sutton and the D. This team was supposed to take that next step and challenge Denver for the division and/or be regarded as at least the 3rd or 4th best team in the AFC. Not saying I thought that, but that was the vibe heading into the season opener.
And yeah I do think the Chiefs will put together enough wins against sub par teams to be in the mix for a one and done playoff game. The AFC is full of mediocre/bad teams and after collecting some wins against some crap/mediocre teams (ala Texans) we will all see this team isnt horrible its just average.
The D has been a big disappointment though. Supposedly this was the year with everyone healthy they were going to be one of the better units in the league. The defensive numbers will improve as the level of competition declines but they will still not live up to the hype the were given.
And yeah Alex will probably skate by with Sutton and the D taking the blame but really if this team was going to be good it had to be because of a very good D, forcing turnovers, giving the O short fields (texans game) Only idiot Chiefs fans believed a game manager QB was going to play a big part in this team being good. The only teams that ever make any noise with Alex Smith type QBs have great defenses and consistent running games.
Reid and Dorsey should be held accountable for hitching the wagon to a game manager caliber QB. Stop gap is fine. ALex Smith or bust is reeruned if you want to be a real contender.
