It still bothers me.

Let's just say that it'll probably be a closed casket funeral.

Yuck. I've smelled that smell before. It never really leaves you.

I'm a Yale guy myself...

Loved him in so many roles. Mississippi Burning was awesome. Such a great actor

Raiderhater 02-27-2025 09:14 PM

It’s a small role that most won’t think of but, when I think of Gene Hackman roles I always remember him as the Polish General Sosabowski in A Bridge Too Far.

I was disgusted with what's his name Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luther, horrible performance.

Gene Hackman was the only valid Lex Luthor IMO he was awesome

EPodolak 02-27-2025 10:25 PM

Some of his best roles were during the second golden age of Hollywood, late 60s and 70s. Bonnie and Clyde, French Connection, and Night Moves are personal favorites.

Too bad about the weird circumstances surrounding his death.

Straight, No Chaser 02-27-2025 11:11 PM

Since this broke, I can't seem to stop thinking about the mystery of what happened with them... huge Gene Hackman admirer. After watching "The French Connection" I was mesmerized and thrilled by the film, the way it was photographed, the utter rawness of the characters and circumstance --basically like nothing I had seen before or since in the genre. I watched it again last year and realized I like films shot with film.

Anyway, I can't help playing detective here and Note: I have not been consuming social media:

So his wife is 32 years younger and he's ninety-effing five. Age don't matter much when you are young(er) but now... I think she was frustrated and poisoned Gene. Gene was found in the "mud room" on the floor with his cane and sunglasses. So, he went out for a morning walk like he probably always does and when he came back he collapsed on his way into the house. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a stroke or heart attack. Betsy poisoned him. As far as what happened to her, well she probably felt immense guilt and took the pills herself. I would think the autopsy could reveal who died first and I think it was Gene.

The 10 year old Shepard in the crate... terrible. I'm a dog owner, Shepard's... hard to imagine. What I can't figure out is why it was the landscapers who found them.. .He has three kids. Gee, if Dad was 95 wouldn't you be calling him, like weekly or even daily? WTF?

Nickhead 02-27-2025 11:44 PM

he either died of NC's or she mercy killed him.

then out of remorse/guilt took her life and the dog being caged, there was no one to let it out.

my two cents :D

RINGLEADER 02-28-2025 12:41 AM

From what I’ve read my guess is either:

1. They got in an argument she pushed him and he fell and died and she became despondent and took a bunch of pills and killed herself; or

2. He fell and died and she became despondent and killed herself; or

3. They ate something bad or there was a gas leak and they both died.

Regardless, the dog in the kennel died from lack of water/food.

For my money, cinema doesn’t get much better than this. RIP Mr Hackman
