Thanks for another no call ref. Gotta hand it to the refs tonight, they haven't been nearly as eager to call a charge as those refs were during the Kentucky game.

chiefsfan987 03-22-2007 07:17 PM

Screw it, i say foul them. Why give them a shot at it?

Dr. Johnny Fever 03-22-2007 07:17 PM

Rush is soooooo the man.

Why not foul 'em so they can't get 3?

Okay, it's time to reveal this little tidbit:

Today is my birthday. KU always wins in the tournament when they play on my birthday.

noa 03-22-2007 07:19 PM

BTW, of course we give up an offensive rebound at the worst possible moment. Thankfully they turned it over.

We're going to have to shoot better at the free throw line next game or we won't be around.

52% are you freaking kidding me?

Al Bundy 03-22-2007 07:24 PM

The Chickens lucked their way into that one. Well that was a good game SIU, nothing to be ashamed of.

Hootie 03-22-2007 07:24 PM

Chalmers and Wright = CHOKERS

Man, KU doesn't have a single PT player like SIU's Tatum. Those guys played SCARED.

Rush did ok but where is the friggin' intensity?

Bearcat 03-22-2007 07:24 PM

We've learned how to win any game, but this was sickening.... ALL the credit to SIU. I'm sure there will be plenty of Kansas fans saying "we almost beat ourselves" (well, we almost did with free throws, but that's not my point), but it was obvious we hadn't seen that kind of man-to-man all season.

I'll line up to eat crow... they are the 85 Bears.

AZChief 03-22-2007 07:24 PM

What you say abut Rush has been his problem this entire season. He had a great game against Kentucky, but it was all from the three point line. He just doesn't seem to have the ability to play with intensity.

Great game SIU. I am truly happy we got to play them to earn our way in this tourney.

Hootie 03-22-2007 07:26 PM

I think SIU was the better team and I'm not even kidding. I am glad the Jayhawks won but SIU was better coached and if they made some of those threes in the first half it would've been a different game.

The Jayhawks should feel pretty fortunate after this one.

The free throw shooting by Chalmers was unacceptable.

Reminds me of Frank Williams (U of I)...dude was awesome, but disappeared for HUGE stretches of the game, mainly in the first half...but at least he was a clutch player when it mattered.

The reason KU probably won't win it all is because they don't have a single player on their team that will step up and take over the game like that Tatum fella for SIU.

Chalmers play tonight was a joke. Wow.

Donger 03-22-2007 07:28 PM

I know even less about basketball than football, but why did Self call a TO when the KU player missed his first thingy? That seemed counter-productive.

Rush is nowhere near as talented as Carmello.

Rush will make a good 8 MPG reserve player in the NBA when he makes the jump. He'll never be a star, or anything more than a reserve. Maybe a 6th man, but that's his ceiling.

I agree. It seems the team that wins this tournament every year usually gets lucky at least once in the run toward the title. I feel like we got lucky in this one. Had we just made our free throws we wouldn't have had to hold our breath.

My friend said the same thing...why would he ice his own player...but I think with 2.2 seconds left he just wanted to make sure none of the idiots fouled anyone when Wright missed the free throw.

I think Self realized Wright had about a 4% chance of making the shot, so he might as well tell his players how to defend the rebound...

And how about Rush almost airballing that one free throw?

MAN MAN MAN...

A great game by both teams. I was very scared going into this game (in case you couldn't tell by my comments this week). I knew SIU was a very good, physical, hard nosed type team. I had a feeling that this would be a struggle. Sure, a little luck was involved. But at the same time, luck had nothing to do with some clutch shots toward the end of the game. If KU hadn't sucked so bad at the FT line tonight, it would not have been that close.

I haven't watched very many Jayhawks games this season, I'll be honest...college basketball doesn't interest me...but I wasn't impressed by a single person on KU...Chalmers and Collins have terrible ball handling skills...the only thing that impressed me was when their big guy (don't even know his name) stepped up and nailed his two free throws.

To be fair though, SIU's defense is a bazillion times scrappier than anything KU had seen all season.

I'll give them credit. They play very, very hard. And they play very tough defense. At the same time I recognize that KU didn't do some things that they normally do. The chess match was almost won by SIU's coach. Still, SIU is as good as advertised. Rarely do you see a team hustle and challenge as much as they did.

Yeah, their defense was awesome. But I hope Collins/Chalmers don't expect to play PG in the NBA, and if they do, they better find out how to handle the ball a little better.

This was a bad game to judge the Jayhawks by. Every team has a bad game.

Collins will make it to the NBA. Not so sure about Chalmers. You have to cut Collins some slack. He's a freshman and that was probably the toughest D he's faced in his entire life.

I understand.

But when people say Rush saved their ass, I think to myself, "Rush disappeared for almost the entire game..."

He made some good plays and some good baskets, but he scored a very quiet 10 or 12 points, that's for sure.

The Jayhawks definately got pushed out of their usual game tonight. Chalmers and especially Collins are generally great ball handlers. That's actually one of Collins strong points.

SIU never allowed them to get into their comfort zone. That's to their credit. To KU's credit, they were good enough to overcome it and win anyway.

Despite what some of my KU brethren will have you believe, it was a good TO. He wanted to make sure that his team understood the situation. If Wright missed the 2nd FT (which he did), SIU would only need a 3 pointer to tie it. He was probably emphasizing staying with the long range shooters and for God's sake don't foul. At least that is what I would have been telling them.

Don't know much about the guy...

I do know that, when Deron Williams was a freshmen at the U of I...everyone thought he was terrible. He developed into one of the NBA's best PG's...

So I'm sure with hard work both Collins/Chalmers could improve tremendously...

I just can't believe that Chalmers, a supposed team leader, couldn't make his free throws at the most important time of the game. That shows a lot about a player.
