Actually, there are four major poor shot types: the push, pull, hook, and slice.

The first two are caused by swing path; the other two are caused by face angle.

You can't hit a traditional slice, which is actually a pull slice, unless your path is outside to in with an open clubface. Ninety percent of golfers hit a pull-slice, and they all generally do it for the same reason: they can't turn, their grip is too weak, and their swing is too steep.

Feel isn't real. If you tell someone to look at the ball they won't get off the ball. Telling someone to keep their eye on the ball is a recipe for hanging back and flipping.

I can "see" why you were struggling with your slice. what are you thinking before you swing?

philfree 04-30-2015 09:49 PM

You need to try and see the ball at impact but your head can't be locked in a vice. Keeping your head down to long will cause a pull and or a meeting with a skank.

I haven't struggled with a slice since Jack Kemp was a VP nominee. You may mean well, but you don't know what you're talking about, man.

philfree 04-30-2015 10:56 PM

I've been really struggling with my game but today I felt like a turned a small corner. I was able to go through my routine for a complete 9. I shot +1 for 9 holes but the main thing was the ability to stick with my routine.

O.city 05-01-2015 08:22 AM

So I've really been working hard on trying to get a little flatter into the ball. It's finally immensely paying off but I had to get more on plane going back so I didn't have to manipulate it as much in the way down.

I'm finally able to fire it down the forearm plane and not worry about it. Playing really well right now.

Although were having another little guy this month, this summer should be great for golf. Bandon dunes this fall, whistling straits (then chiefs pack Monday nightie) in the fall, And just found out I'll be playing cog hill and medinah in June.

ferrarispider95 05-01-2015 12:10 PM

The thing about golf is advice is not one size fits all. For instance, in my case, you are always told to fire the lower body first, which is correct. However, if I do, my arms get left behind and I block it to the right. To get the club more in front, I have to manually drop my elbow down, which gets the hips moving and keeps the elbow in front and drops the club in the slot.

I have been working a flatter swing plane with a shallower entry into the ball.

Once you are in the elbow plane, with the elbow tucked in front of the hip, you can go it as hard as you want.

I like to curl under on the follow, which allows me to go hard as I want without ever turning the toe over. Aim on left side of fairway and ball falls to the right.

Exactly, head can move up and down and even sway off the ball a bit, but spine angle is the key for consistency.

Sounds like an awesome summer of golf. I'm playing Buffalo Ridge next Saturday. For this time of year in the Ozarks it will be in the best shape of any course around since they had it spruced up for the Legends Of Golf.

Did any of you all get out and play this weekend? I played my home track and it's rough. Had a 7:30 this AM with a good player and we played it to a push. The old man had him down most of the day but could only hang on for a push. I should have won but I let myself down on 16 and 17. Played 18 well with a birdie putt to go +1 for the win but I missed it a little on the high side. It was a beautiful day none the less.

GloryDayz 05-03-2015 06:36 PM

Played 18 yesterday "with the guys", and 18 more today with somebody better than the guys...

Yes, played nine this afternoon, might play a scramble Thursday.

kept my eye on the ball...:D

..used my St Andrews "The Davey" for the first time on FAST greens..hoo boy, talk about needing finesse..made when greens used to be a lot rougher.

Stiil, a great putter and hit the practice greens afterwards.

I went to the driving range for 1/2 hour as that was all the time I had to spare this weekend. Will be playing 18 next weekend for sure!

Also buying new irons-big sale and they feel great when I swing. My last irons cost $599 back in 2005 so this is a steal for me

With the way I'm driving the ball these days (not far and a slice!!), it's not to hard to see where it went, or at least know where to start looking...

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-10-2015 04:10 PM

Fowler went absolutely ape shit on the back nine. Played 16-18 at -4. That's doing work on Tiger Woods, let alone the real deal.

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-10-2015 04:10 PM

Damn. Drunks at 17 are getting on Sergio for stepping off the ball.

stonedstooge 05-10-2015 04:13 PM

Gotta root for Rickie. If you finish eagle-birdie-birdie on those three holes, you deserve to win.

stonedstooge 05-10-2015 05:04 PM

Three shots and all 3 to the right. Man

OnTheWarpath15 05-10-2015 05:18 PM

How did that miss? Wow. Thought Fowler was going 1 up.

OnTheWarpath15 05-10-2015 05:52 PM

3 shots inside 7 feet for Rickie on 17 today.

And now a chance to win it.

stonedstooge 05-10-2015 05:53 PM

HE DID IT.

OnTheWarpath15 05-10-2015 05:53 PM

Atta boy, Rick. What a Sunday.

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-10-2015 05:57 PM

That nonsense aside, best tourney I may have ever seen. It was intense the entire week.

philfree 05-14-2015 10:28 PM

I played today in a rematch with the club champ. We played a $1.00 Nassau match play and the old man came out on top. Truly hacked it the front 9 hitting only 1 green in regulation. I made 6 pars and 3 bogeys for a 39 and was 3 down on the 18 hole bet. Then I shot -1 on the back 9 and he didn't play well and I won +1 for the match. I won a dollar. Woot!

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-16-2015 01:31 PM

McIlroy is tied for the lead with Webb Simpson and Phil is only one back.

MahiMike 05-16-2015 02:04 PM

The TPC was great. Excellent drama there. But it's gotten too big really. I used to go every year now it's too damn crowded and the 17th hole is full of drunks. My buddy that works for Anheiser said they sold twice as much beer than any other year.

That's a lot of suds.

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-16-2015 02:06 PM

McIlroy is going to go stupid low today. He's got a putt to be -8 through 13.

O.city 05-16-2015 02:14 PM

Rory is playing well

OnTheWarpath15 05-16-2015 02:49 PM

Birdie out for 59?

OnTheWarpath15 05-16-2015 02:57 PM

Has a look at birdie on 16 - after a 356 yard drive.

Driver, 9 iron on a 500 yard Par 4.

Ridiculous.

OnTheWarpath15 05-16-2015 03:01 PM

Boom.

Five in a row, and first player in tournament history to card 11 birdies in a round.

OnTheWarpath15 05-16-2015 03:05 PM

Well, 59 is dead. 40 footer upcoming.

Prison Bitch 05-16-2015 04:18 PM

Local players to root for:

KSU Robert Streb 3rd
KU Gary Woodland 14th

GloryDayz 05-17-2015 03:39 PM

Wow, Rory is some kind of awesome!

Prison Bitch 05-17-2015 04:30 PM

I did the deal at Buffalo Ridge today where it's $20.00 for all the balls you can hit along with using the practice bunker and putting green. I got a late start and of course when I got there a thunder cloud was merging. It went south though so I got in a couple hours of practice. Probably only a 150 balls but it was good work. especially early into it before I started to tire. My wedges and short irons were pretty on. Which is fun hitting to a green where the ball reacts like it would on the course. It was good.

Prob 40x

It's very narrow and you won't need a driver on many holes. I've played it before without using driver once. A shot makers course that's quite difficult for shitty golfers

Courses like that are why I've always had a fascination with driving irons.

My tendency to hit snap hooks are why I never actually bag one.

I hit my 3 wood 220-230 piped down the fairway from the tee every time

There are literally dozens of tips that could work, but without seeing a swing it is just as likely to further **** you up, so try a drill instead.

Go to the range some time and try to hit your driver less than 100 yards with a full swing. You can't cheat and stop at impact or only take a putter-length swing.

A lot of the time, hitting hooks is a matter of just getting too fast with your arms and trying to hit the ball too hard.

but seriously

and as for the post above ... in my Monday league ... I don't use my driver. Not worth it.

I hit 80% of fairways with my 3 wood and about 20% with my driver

and most of the time my driver only goes about 20 yards further although when I really get it good I'll get it around 270-280

I've really worked on my swing but no matter what I do I can't figure out the driver ... and I golf daily ... and work on it almost daily

You can't get away with hitting a 3 wood on the upswing like you can the driver.

For a lot of people it can be a matter of the extra shaft length. Most modern drivers are just too long and should probably be not much more than 43-44 inches.
