I believe it is also in reference to that main coach with the short hair they kept showing in the stands as she is retiring.

It's simple. Record all day, coverage starts here at 6 am. Get home. Stay up until 1am burning through 15 hours of coverage. Sleep a few hours. Log on to CP to read about doing beach volleyball players and Michael Phelps smoking weed.

He did it again!

The LFW boxer from Wichita who pulled off an upset a couple days ago just won again by UD (29-28x3). He advances to the semifinals and is guaranteed at least a bronze medal. (They don't force people to fight for a bronze in boxing, they award 2 bronze medals) It will be the first time the USA won a medal in that weight class in 28 years.

edit: we have a LWW boxer who is scheduled to fight in the round of 32 at 4:45pm

alnorth 08-10-2016 02:39 PM

It will also be the first boxing medal of any kind in 8 years.

alnorth 08-10-2016 04:16 PM

Our LWW boxer won pretty easily to advance to the round of 16 by UD (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

This is one of the most embarrassing performances I've ever seen by any team. Kevin Durant is just a goddamned choke artist. Every time he touches the ball something bad happens.

Thompson, Jordan, and Durant have just been horrible.

I'd sit Durant and Thompson for the rest of the tournament. They make the team worse.

As much as I enjoy the Olympics I miss the days of amateurs competing. That's what made the 1980 hockey team so special. Now I actually root against our pro athletes and pull for the little countries. Being at the top of the medal count means we sold out - like Russians...

:spock:

I don't understand this line of thinking. In the past it was a stacked deck--American amateurs against Soviet bloc professionals.

Now you can actually have your most athletically gifted players compete. It's not like Ovechkin doesn't get to play in the Winter Olympics because he's Russian.

Yea, I kind of miss those days when our college BB players would still destroy the world. But the world caught up. And the world did that by starting professional leagues and developing professional players and allowing them to compete.

That's because it's a forgotten professional sport due to MMA and the ridiculous amount of governing bodies.

Plus, Olympic rules suck.

Ummmmm. Pro rugby has existed for a long time. The 7's game was devised because 15's was accused of being too boring and too much of a ruck game. The track meet that is 7's is more wide open, but it too will have a shelf life with the rugby purists.

Michael Phelps broke a 2,168-year-old Olympic record

By Rodger Sherman @rodger_sherman on Aug 11, 2016, 10:20p

Michael Phelps won his 22nd gold medal on Thursday, extending his record for the most golds of any Olympian ever. On Tuesday, his win in the 200 meter butterfly made him the first person to win individual swimming gold in Olympic games 12 years apart. He also became the oldest man to win individual swimming gold, breaking a 96-year-old record set by Hawaiian surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku in 1920. But there is an even older record Phelps set when he claimed his 13th individual gold by winning his fourth 200m IM on Thursday.
