I had remodeled my previous home in 2008 and had white cabinets and they looked great. When I moved into my current villa in Florida in 2011 they had horrible looking natural maple I believe is what they called the finish. I added a backsplash, plantation shutters and the kitchen still looked like crap. I want to be awakened in the morning with something fresh and bright. Here's how it looked before.

https://scontent-mia3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...87&oe=5FB0658B

I thought about painting, I contacted a painter and he would do the cabinets for $1,000 but I thought over time that might get worn looking. I decided to spend a little more money and have the cabinets refaced for $4,800. They removed all the doors and drawers and covered the base with white formica, then put on new doors and drawers and hardware. We replaced the white appliances since they were 7 years old with new LG stainless appliances from Best Buy and in August had wood floors installed and this is how it looks now. Since this photo I had replaced the sink and faucet as well.

Yeah, I think the basic formula is paint or chips for the base layer, sand it down, then cover with a clear epoxy.

Much cleaner and modern looking kitchens, Deep and Lew

I've never cared for wood grain cabinets, floors yes... cabinets not so much

Also jealous of Deep Purples big industrial style sink, you can surely bang out some dishes PDQ in that bad boy

My wife so wants to get rid of the farm house ****ing cabinets but her mom loves them because she's permanently stuck in the 1930's.

She at least gave in on the counter tops, which we did with featherweight concrete.

I did the DIY version of that a few years back. Just paint on the cabinets (though I did a TON of research into how to do it well). We did Rustoleum's Countertop Transformations for the countertops, and it's held up surprisingly well. We're at 5.5 years now, and the only issue I've run into is that it doesn't stick to 90-degree corners very well, so I've had to touch it up a few times with a black paint pen. Still, this whole project cost me about $400 (not including appliances obviously), so hard to complain after 5 years.

That reminds me to add our 10-in-1 (or something like that) machine, our vacuum sealer, and our vacuum marinating machine to the list. Very happy with all of them.

I recently purchased a Sonos Move, and I am really digging the versatility and quality of the sound. It's pricey, but if you're obsessed with quality like I am, it's a no-brainer type of purchase for a portable speaker (wi-fi AND bluetooth to boot!).

Glory recommended this is one of these threads and I bought one for myself.

This is a cutting mofo. Especially for the price.

I have a rental house next to me that always ends up with some POS living there one way or another. And the owner doesn't give a shit about anything that will cost him money. As a result I ended up with three trees, 8-10 inch diameter, 25' tall, growing along and into my the fence line. And the asshole wouldn't do anything about it.
So about a week after the last renter moved out I got out my nice and quiet Sun chainsaw early one morning, hopped the fence and dropped all three trees into his backyard. They covered almost every square foot of his back yard when down. He finally had to hire someone to cut the damn things up and haul them off.
Never heard a peep from him about it.:D

4-6 minutes a day is all I do and it has done wonders. With teaching scuba I end up doing quite a bit of walking around with the kit on my back and also standing in waist-deep water, it tends to cause some compression in the spine and in my 50s, it's not quite as easy deal with like it was in my 20s. LMAO

I have a Teeter exactly like that one, got it at Dick's on sale for $250 at Christmas 3 years ago. I had very bad lower back pain and couldn't walk around the grocery store or the mall without sitting down every 5 minutes. I had a X-ray and they said I had a degenerative L1 thru L5, and I was 67 at the time, so they said it's not going to get better and I needed fusion surgery.

I told my doctor let me try a couple of things first. I spent $1900 and 3 weeks with a chiropractor, total waste of time. Then I bought the inversion table and started out with just a slight inversion for only about 5 minutes a day. Every week I increased the amount to where now I'm about 170 degrees inverted. All my back pain went away after about 5 weeks, it's the greatest thing ever. It doesn't work for everyone, I recommended to 3 people at the gym and they all said it didn't help. I guess they don't give it enough time or can't stand being inverted.

To say the least I'm one of the ones it has worked for. And I 100% wanted to avoid the recurring costs of a chiropractor! That being said, I progressed through the green, orange and red setting on the tether in a few days, now I've got it disconnected and have the hinges all the way in, so I'm getting the maximum stretch right now. And the puppies love it when "I'm hanging"... But 2-3 minutes in the morning, sometimes at lunch too, and then in the evening have done good things for me. :thumb:

Sorry, 2-3 minutes... But usually twice a day, sometimes 3 times a day. Perhaps I should upgrade to 10 minutes..

DeepPurple 10-19-2020 12:37 PM

All this surround sound setups, am I the only one that used their stereo system and converted to the TV watching, in my case I watch a lot of live concerts from youtube. I have 2 Sansui Speakers S 117 speakers and 2 Sansui Speakers S 917 for the rear.

Rear channel

Hook it up to a 75" Samsung 4K TV and my Sony amp which had about 20 audio choices and it's a fantastic theater experience and will blow you out of the room if you're not careful.

I find the more I do it, the less time I need. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes is good for you, that's about all that I spend but I also don't go everyday anymore. Maybe 4 or 5 days a week.

All my audio stuff in the living room is Polk, 7 channel surround. Bedroom is 5-channel, uses Infinity Primus and Polk bookshelf speakers for fill. Awesome. Amps are both Denon, used to have Yamaha but I've come to like Denon better.

I'll try 10, but prolly not at full inversion, I'll try 40 degrees and see how that feels, then 60 degrees.

Thanks for the advice and tips..

I recommended these in the prime thread. They were super cheap those few days, not that they are that expensive anyways. About the same cost as LED shop lights if not cheaper, but without the hassle of running cords. I can’t recommend them enough for any unfinished space.

I almost didn't post the photo because I knew that would get some grief. However, I bought helmet in 2001 when they won SB XXXV, so I've had it a long time. Can I help that I was born in Baltimore, however I live in Florida now which is actually where I grew up.

My Sony amp is only 5.1 but since I only really turn it up when we're watching youtube videos, most of the stuff on there you're lucky to get any kind of surround. That's what I like about my amp, it can simulate surround and add about 20 different audio choices. I consider upgrading to a Denon or something similar since my amp is about 20 years old but it really serves the purpose. I found Polk makes decent stuff at a fair price when it comes to speakers.

I have a 60" Vizio in the BR that I bought in 2012 and it's still going strong. The only bad thing when there that old is the app, but a ROKU takes care of that. My 2017 75" Samsung shown in the other photo I already had to replace the power board which was $175 plus labor.

I think when this Samsung gives out next time I'm not fixing it, going with another Vizio 75" or LG. I've got all LG appliances in the kitchen and W/D in the garage and they work great and I've heard good things about their TV's.

I have a Sony DG 720 I bought in early 2000s for $200 at Best Buy. They've been discontinued but I think I got a lot of bang for buck. It put out 95 watts to each speaker up to 7 speakers. I never turn it above volume 40 which is less than half. In a masonry house with all the doors and windows closed, I can stand in the backyard and it will sound like a radio is on in the backyard from inside the house. It has all the power I need.

Probably if I lived in a bigger home and used the stereo strictly for music. When I retired to my villa in 2011 I got rid of 4,000 albums and my turntable and now it's live video is all I care to watch and listen. I feel the need to see it as well as hear it. What would do with all this stereo equipment in front of my lounge chairs.

When I was in Korea we all had Sansui and Pioneer speakers and I thought they sounded great, especially for what I paid. I eventually blew out the Pioneers in the 80's back when I had a record store and they were in use all day and at loud volumes at times.

I had bought these Sansui's in the photo in 1984 for my home, they're still going strong after 36 years of use. I think the big ones were $300 and the shorter ones were $200, so that $1,000 for the four brand new in a stereo store. I just saw a pair sell for $100 on eBay but you have to pick them up yourself.

I've mentioned it elsewhere, and this is super niche use, but if you have two cats (or dogs I suppose) that you free feed different foods, these gizmos are great. They read the cats' chips (or a tag on their collar) so that only the appropriate cat can get to food.

They're not cheap ($150), but they're great if you have a need.

Burn it. Literally. It's ****ing cold.

I've had some power outages recently so I bought a Fleshlight.

****ing thing doesn't shine any light but I feel a lot better standing in the dark now. :D

I bought a whole home Generac generator last summer. I'm feeling pretty good about that decision with the reports of so many areas being without power in this cold.

Yes, it's dual gas. We have it hooked to propane because we live in the country. It takes eight seconds, I believe.

Lame compared to the cool stuff others buy but yesterday I picked up 100 lbs. of cracked corn and piled it up on my bottom ground for the pheasants since -26 degrees with snow on the ground has to suck. This morning I watched them dancing around scratching in it like it was Christmas.

And then did you shoot them?

Assuming you didn't, that was a nice thing to do.

Out of curiosity, what does 100 lbs. of cracked corn cost, and can humans eat it?

Rain Man 02-15-2021 09:10 PM

In the past year I've purchased almost nothing but food. However, I got this a month or two ago and I've really liked it. I was tired of having my laptop computer in my actual lap.

Nah, I don't shoot them. I grew up in a hunting family so I did hunt them for a year or two when I bought the ground and built the house. After watching what they have to go through in a year I now try to help them out. I will however let anyone hunt that stops to ask.

With the high price of corn and beans they have lost a lot of habitat when farmers till over their ground. Farmers have to survive too. Before that happened one morning I counted 87 scratching around in the surrounding fields. The flock on my ground is down to a dozen so I try to keep them fed during the winter.

100 lbs. cracked corn cost me $20. I'm pretty sure if you had a pestle and mortar you could make some pretty awful tasting tortillas.

I recently bought a bunch of cigar tools and an ashtray.

This is a GREAT tool. 4-1

Gotta Jura A1 espresso, coffee maker. I'm not sure where this has been all my life being a French press guy and all but I'm glad it's here. Was going to get one of the fancy ones but I am not really into the milk so.

These two dudes, one for spot, one for smooth wide angle flood mounted to the camera kit, both a backup to/for the other. They were AWESOME!

I've been playing around with Bluetooth setups for watching TV and playing video games. Basically testing out gear that supports the Qualcomm AptX codec. I'll post more next week, I have two more sets of earbuds incoming on Monday.

When I consume more than the recommended amount of little blue pill, I use one while the other dries out. But I call a doctor if it lasts longer than 4 hours.

Been pretty happy with my Polk audio speaker setup. Went budget so the wife wouldn't lose her mind and these are nice speakers for the price. They're all wired and put out more than enough of what I need. Got a couple towers, couple bookshelfs and a sub for $600.

Dude at NFM was pretty high on them for the price point and I'd read enough reviews to feel comfy but they've exceeded my expectations a few months in.

Today, we got a 50" Visio 4k(UHD) Smart tv ($319 at Sam's). We had a 7 year old Visio that I thought was sweet, but this new one is unbelievable. We are turning in DirecTV Monday, and living on streaming from now on. I want to figure out how to watch Chiefs games soon, so I'll be ready for the season.

Duh, for when a friends over. You don't have to be an asshole. It's common courtesy to offer a bro whatever it is that your happening.

"Hey Josh, how ya doing buddy? What brings you by?"

"Just seeing what's up Tom. How's life treating ya?"

"Pretty damn good Josh. Having myself a brew and a simulated pussy, you game?"

"**** yeah."

Tuffy locking trunk for my FJ Cruiser. Not only does it keep stuff safe - it adds more storage space by dividing up the back area (you're rarely stacking stuff to the ceiling from the floor).

Roomba - pays for itself many times over in how often I have the housecleaner come.

Rainbarrel 04-17-2021 04:08 AM

Need some saltpeter for birds. The crack of dawn meat market for robins is annoying.

D.A.P. 04-17-2021 08:14 AM

Fresh Balls ball powder is my favorite purchase.

It is incredible how affordable decent TVs are these days. Probably time for similar upgrade soon.

What the hell do you use for water? My cat is picky as **** and doesn’t like the fountain we have.

eDave 04-19-2021 05:37 PM

My cat insists I leave the shower water trickling so he can drink that. Rarely drinks from the bowl. Hell, the asshole paws most of it out. Dick.
