Pitchers: Cueto, Volquez, Ventura, Duffy, Holland, Davis, Herrera, Madson, Hochevar, Finnegan, Guthrie (or Zimmer/Manaea if they make an impression)

Batters: Gordon, Moose, Cain, Hosmer, Morales, Rios, Perez, Infante, Escobar, Colon (or UTIL), Dyson, Gore, Fuenmayor, Butera

Guthrie over Chris Young. Interesting idea anyway.

Chris Young really stepped up for us this year when we needed him most. But the idea of him on the playoff roster makes me want to gag. Guthrie would be our emergency guy in case one of our starters got roughed up and we needed some cheap innings ... so I guess you could make Young that guy as well. Ideally, neither of them would be needed to start as Ventura is DESPERATELY needed if we want to make it back to the WS

Your suggested playoff roster shows how deep the relief pitching possibilities are for this team. You didn't mention Medlen, Lamb, or Franklin Morales.

the problem is the Royals generated a lot of "new fans" that are new to the team and new to the Royals ... and on this board, many of them are football fans. Football is 16 games. A lot of these guys watch a Royals game here and there with a football fan mentality. Al Bundy wanted to DFA Ryan Madson after 1 inning of 1 game while ignoring 25 dominant performances proceeding that. Dude has a 1.8 ERA on the year and has an electric changeup with a 95 MPH fastball.

Maybe. It doesn't really matter if it is Manaea/Morales or Finnegan, though. This isn't 2014 when we have Scott Downs. Hell, you could make an argument to carry an extra bat and use a 10 man pitching staff now that we have Madson/Hochevar/Herrera/Holland/Davis. You don't really need a LOOGY if you have 5 dominant right hand relievers.

Not only that, but if we do acquire Cueto and Ventura doesn't cut it in the starting rotation, you could make him our bullpen guy and watch him fire pitches at 101+ MPH for an inning or two at a time if needed in the postseason.
