Does Cleveland sell out its playoff games?
|
Quote:
Really though, I thought Cleveland was a pretty strong sports town. And it's not like the Indians have some string of playoff appearances where the fans might take it for granted. They used to pack that stadium. It's not like their attendance is just low, it is almost the worst in the entire league. |
Cleveland is pretty banged up. I think they can win in the 1st round because it's such a short series. Going to be a grind to go all the way though.
|
It's looking like the AL rooting interests will be Texas and gasp Boston. Cleveland, Baltimore and Toronto can all go rot in hell.

World Series Big Papi will have Joe Buck stretched so far MadBum won't want him back. I think I like this Boston team, but the Big Papi WS coverage would be insufferable.
|
The Royals have a $10M mutual option for Volquez for 2017. If the Royals don't exercise the option, they have to pay him a $3M buyout. So, they can exercise the option, and if he decides to stay, they are getting a starting pitcher for $7M. Can they find another starting pitcher of his caliber for $7M. Since his ERA is over 5, he might not get a better offer on the free agent market.

Interesting note: Colorado has had 15 home games this year where they drew more than Kauffman's sell-out attendance would draw. |
Big city with a pleasing climate draws a bigger attendance than a smaller city and less welcoming climate in a summer sport, news at 11.
 |
Rockies stadium is also in the middle of a vibrant downtown where you can walk to tons of bars and restaurants before and after the game. Kaufman has Taco Bell. Do any of the hotels even have bars anymore? What was the name of that bar in the Holiday Inn - Hitters or something?

They're also a larger city with a stadium location that promotes higher attendance as well as walk up traffic. The Cubs and White Sox perfectly illustrate how much a difference it can make in driving casual attendance. They have a more moderate summer season that doesn't keep some from going to a game in the dog days of summer. But most importantly, KC has nothing to defend itself for. They're in the bottom 3 of smallest media markets out of all of baseball, and drawing good numbers as well as absolutely crushing local tv share ratings. So, again, who gives a shit, and what does Denver's team matter in terms of looking to them as a comparison measurement? KC probably mirrors Milwaukee for a city size, but they have more temperate summer weather, and better stadium location. Hell, 2/3rds of the league needs to answer for why KC is drawing better attendance than them. But you wanna keep up your shtick of being contrarian just for the sake of it, then don't be surprised at the lack of respect anyone around here has for your obsession with being a voice of negativity in a sad and telegraphed attempt at seeking out attention. |
Stop pissing on PB's negativity parade. He's not happy unless he's miserable.
|
PB in ultimate troll mode.
Denver's metro area is 2.8 million, not 2.6. Add in the massive cities that are within an hour away (Colorado Springs, Boulder), and that number balloons to 4.2 million. OH NO GUYS. A metro with 33% more people and has a stadium in a perfect downtown area is barely outpacing our attendance. SAD! |
I don't think PB is trolling. He just likes to find negativity in everything. It's his happy place.

Bigger population, bigger stadium...and just because they draw well...why is that a reflection on KC? |
*Sigh*

Don't forget that Boulder has an extremely affordable public transit partnership with Denver. For like $8, you can get between cities, and believe it runs 24 hours. Raw attendance is a dumb thing to look at. Percent of capacity and attendance compared to market size are both much more telling, and KC is top 10 to top 5 market in both. From the beginning of the year they were determined to use Soria in the 8th inning role, even though he came out of the gate like a turd. There is no reason other than "sort by salary" that he ever should have had that job over Herrera. And then Ned could never admit Soria shouldn't be used in high leverage spots, even when it was clear Strahm/Herrera/Davis would be our best chance to win. Also Ned putting Davis into the highest leverage situation possible (basically our whole season on the line with a 1-run lead) coming off the DL when Herrera was available - was pretty bad. His stubbornness may have cost us this season. Although I have a feeling we could have gone into this Cleveland series up 2 in the WC and still be out of the playoffs. They've just had our # all year and are a much better team than us right now. At least it's a lot less painful and nerve-wracking this way. |

http://denver.cbslocal.com/2016/03/0...-world-report/ But that's splitting hairs. Who gives a shit if it's 2.8m? Who ****ing cares? And who cares if they have some nearby population centers either - KC has 250k in Topeka, 125k in St Joe, and 100k in Lawrence all within an hour of The K. Quit making excuses. Denver has great sports fans, everyone in the world knows it, they support 4 pro teams, and they're better than we are with attendance. Why dispute facts? |

Oh, and pro tip: I live in the Springs, and just did work in the city where I analyzed the population of the front range. It's clear from your posts that you don't have a true understanding of the area's population. But hey, troll away PB. |
Most sports teams get only 5-10% of their attendance from outside their metro. The Royals themselves did a survey ~2000 and came up with 7%. (And we are supposedly a "regional franchise").
So attendance isn't driven much by Topeka or Col Springs. Nearly everyone you'd survey at Coors Field is from the Denver area. |

But at the same token, the dude has provided money takes over the years. It's clear he's a fan with a strange way to show his devotion to the team. He does the same thing with KUBball. But PB can add a lot to the conversation. His optimistic takes on 2017 have been a nice change of pace. |

Unlike other people who pop in for a drive by snipe at the team who just won a WS, and in it back to back years. Same dipshit does it in other threads as well. |
Kendrys Morales just became the first Royal to hit 30 HR since Jermaine Dye in 2000.
He's been a bright spot in an otherwise down year. Quite a turnaround from his terrible start to the season. He's now hitting .264 with 30 HR and 90 RBI. |

He's been hot and cold, and there's no guarantee he'll repeat it next year but it's hard to let a guy who hit 30 HR walk, especially on a team without much power.
The other thing with Morales is he's supposed to be the guy who's the expert at watching video and picking up things the opposing pitcher is doing wrong. |

How about that, some Orlando magic.

Total Amos Otis move.
|
Holy ****.
What a way to get 100 RBI's, Hos. |
Hosmer with the 3 run bomb. More 9th inning magic. Hos with 100 RBI.
|
Want to give a shout to my one true love Alex Gordon for getting this rally started.

Wait, we're winning????

Now the question is who pitches the 9th. They burned Wade in the 8th.

Nice comeback win. Forgot what those were like.
But what a terrible loss for the Tigers. |
Thanks for the updates. No TV coverage in Mid-Missouri today.

Thanks Royals.

WilliamTheIrish 05-29-2014, 10:17 AM I blame sports radio 810. It's all their fault. Had they not pushed the issue of demoting Moose, and had let Hosmer and CRYson into the watch party this team would be on a winning streak. They were mean to our players and forced their agenda and we should all goes in lockstep and boycott KK and Clinkscale. And today our **** ing manager decries the "leadership void" in the clubhouse. Yost is now officially fired in my book. |

My guess would be: Merrifield (2B) Moustakas (3B) Cain (RF) Hosmer (1B) Morales (DH - they will try to pick up mutual option, then make QO if he turns it down) Perez (C) Gordon (LF) Escobar (SS) Dyson (CF - would platoon him with Orlando or Dozier, possibly playing Cain in CF if it is Dozier) Bench: Colon Orlando/Dozier Backup C Cuthbert? |
There are some reports that Marlins ace pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident.
