I understand that. But the 8th inning really isn't all that far from the 9th inning, is it?

If that successful bunt had been a successful hit, we'd probably have the lead right now.

And, in the more likely event that it had been a non-productive out, we'd have men on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and a rookie at the plate.

It was the right decision, IMO.
