They still have to make good picks. The royals have proven in the late 90's that having lots of picks doesn't necessarily do much for you.

That said, they did such a good job building a good team, and now after seeing their success decimated a bit I wont begrudge them their picks. They aren't in our division, those poor bastards have to fight the Yankees and Red Sox.

Yeah, I've read a lot of scouts saying Perez is the real deal as a defensive catcher. His question mark is the bat. With that kind of a glove, he doesn't need to be a great hitter, just not horrible. Hopefully he'll figure it out at the plate soon.

If Perez defense is all that, I'm all for it. I think people overrate how many good offensive catchers there are. He can't afford to hit .180 or anything but if he can keep Jason Kendall from throwing beach balls across the infield 5 days a week I'm all for it.
