I doubt many of the regular posters in this thread are "new" fans. I'm certainly not. Comparing Coleman to Madson is stupid, not even in the same league.

Coleman had no business being on this roster. Not 3 weeks ago, not last night, not ever. A change needed to be made and last night just made it glaringly stick out to anyone paying attention to the Royals.

I was ready to put up a courtesy defense for him, but after checking his minor league stats, I really can't. Seems like a mediocre minor leaguer who didn't hit for average or power. Doesn't appear to be a defensive wizard or anything.

Oh well...he seemed nice. Too bad he couldn't have left with a hit.

He did have a 1.000 fielding percentage in the bigs, so that's something.

you can't have that hindsight approach though

did the game come down to Dusty Coleman? No. He struck out in a terrible spot ... but we still had OUR LEADOFF GUY UP with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd and he failed as well. And then Moose failed, too (albeit to a lesser extent).

We're an AL team and played in an NL park in July. This isn't our best 25. Coleman was up because Dayton/Ned wanted Colon to get meaningful at bats in AAA.

It's totally whatever. We lost a game in July. Coleman shit his pants. It's over. It's really no ones fault.

I understand that we still had two outs to go with Esky and Moose. But one thing that I hate in baseball, especially in a rally situation, is giving up a free first out. And that is exactly what happened. Rosenthal was really struggling and the Royals helped him by sending up a player of Coleman's caliber. It gave him a "free" out.

But you are right. It's one game. No big deal. But championship teams don't have Dusty Coleman's on their roster, which was my point.

Hootie 07-24-2015 01:14 PM

Meh. Woulda been nice to give that kid a moment. It's not like Drew Butera was some definite sitting there on the bench, either. Butera has a career .184 BA and a .501 OPS. Hell, some might argue Dusty Coleman had a better shot LMAO

our 25 man playoff roster (with Cueto):

Pitchers: Cueto, Volquez, Ventura, Duffy, Holland, Davis, Herrera, Madson, Hochevar, Finnegan, Guthrie (or Zimmer/Manaea if they make an impression)

Batters: Gordon, Moose, Cain, Hosmer, Morales, Rios, Perez, Infante, Escobar, Colon (or UTIL), Dyson, Gore, Fuenmayor, Butera

LOOKS GOOD TO ME

There's no way Young gets left off this roster, unless he's injured of course.

All true...
I guess it is HOW Dusty failed. He just LOOKED awful. Late, feeble swings. The deer in the headlights look. He was out before he ever stepped in the box.

And it is only one game in July, but I really hate losing to these teams we may play in the postseason--Cards, Houston, NY...

he's utterly useless to us in the postseason if we pick up a starting pitcher at the deadline

Ideally, you're getting 5 or 6 from whoever starts the game. If Young is starting for us come postseason, we're ****ed.

After that ... you have Hoch / Madson / Herrera / Davis / Holland

the only time Young would have any worth to us is if one of our starters only lasts 3 innings ... and if that's the case, then you put Finnegan or Morales or Manaea out there and extend Hoch or Madson past 3 outs if necessary

This isn't 2014 where we had HDH and then Scott Downs.

True. It was an AB that I had to listen to on the radio (game blacked out), but when they announced Coleman as the PH I was just laughing. I just feel bad for the dude at this point. Has to be horribly dejecting.

...but yeah, Esky has been so clutch this year you can't really get mad at him but he's the guy who cost us. You gotta expect a team leader to get the run in there ... he didn't. I'm over it.

I'm glad we fought and I'm glad Rios and Infante led another rally. That's really big for us. Get those two clicking and we're going to be a really, really, really tough team to beat. Dayton is going to get us a starter or two.

Game late but I will take it. Just never understood the Coleman move when Cuthbert was looking promising.

Hootie 07-24-2015 01:27 PM

I didn't really see anything promising from Cuthbert. He hit a lucky triple because he was late on a swing. He did drive one ball to the LC gap which was nice. But he's nothing more than a .600 OPS guy at the ML level right now. And his defense at 3rd would be terribly exposed if he was an every day guy. He doesn't charge anything, plays everything off the wrong hop, and tries to get buy with arm strength alone.

The only thing I can think of is they think Colon can be valuable during our playoff stretch and they want to keep him fresh at the plate.

lewdog 07-24-2015 02:51 PM

Dusty is a Bronco loving homo. **** HIM.

From what I read, this is why they sent him down. He was hardly getting any playing time at the ML level and they wanted him to be getting regular AB's to continue his development. Ideally, I think Colon should be our utility guy that can fill in at 2B, SS, 3B.. but Infante and especially Esky hardly ever get days off.

Here's one I would have never imagined his name coming up.

Pee Sporting News:

The pitcher the Royals should go after is an old friend who has reinvented himself since leaving Kansas City. Jesse Chavez was a pretty terrible reliever for the Royals in 2010 and 2011, then went to Toronto on waivers and was pretty terrible there, too. It was not until Chavez got to Oakland that he put it all together, and although his record this year is an unimpressive 5-9, he has a 3.21 ERA and 3.11 FIP, with a rate of 7.85 strikeouts per nine innings that would establish him as the K king of Kansas City, ahead of even Yordano Ventura.
Chavez is not a big name, but names don’t matter. Performance does, and Chavez can bring that. He’s also not a rental, as he is not eligible for free agency until after next season. With a 2015 salary of $2.15 million, Chavez would not be in line for a crazy salary next year, which also is nice for Kansas City.
The Royals could choose to go for a bigger splash, and they would not be wrong to do so. Chavez, though, would fit Kansas City both this year and next. Like the Royals, he has remade himself in the last four years, and the reunion is worth pursuing.
