I'd go tell the home plate ump that they could reinsert him if they wanted. Then I wouldn promply drill him right in the middle of the shoulder blades.

As a matter of fact I'd bring in Motte to do it. Then give him the "come on out here big boi" look, and run Holliday in from left for the spear.

I guess getting Heath Bell for him would have probably worked out pretty well too, but given the sheer number of arms we've needed to keep the pen alive in this PS, we needed every swinging dick the Jays could send to us.

Make it a table for two at the buffet.

AA is certainly doing a better job than JP, who wasn't willing to take risks on possible elite talent (which is really the only way to win in the AL East if your ownership isn't willing to spend). Lawrie, for his part, is really one of the best young players I've seen. He already reminds me of an Ian Kinsler type (good power, great plate discipline, good defense), but at 3B. Guy's intense, too.

The Mike Napoli trade still hurts. I remember being in disbelief that they traded Vernon Wells' contract and somehow got the Angels' best hitter back. That feeling was dampened significantly when they traded Napoli a few days later for Frank ****ing Francisco. That's the only mistake Anthopoulos has made, though. The rest has been great and he's arguably the best farm system in baseball in under 2 years.

The Yankees and Red Sox will never be bad. They buy their way into good teams each season and eat their mistake contracts. The Jays will just have to get as good as them to win, but that time's getting closer. If they acquire Votto in a trade as has been rumored, that time might even be next season.

I just don't understand why Cincy would be willing to move Votto at this point. I know Yonder Alonso is a pretty damned good hitter, but if I'm shopping Votto, I need a number of premium players to get back.

Well Drabek has become a bit of a question mark after his awful 2011. Morrow (fantastic peripherals and stuff, 20 cent head) and Henderson Alvarez (throws 95 consistently, heavy sinker stuff) are both quite good and in the majors now, though. They have a few guys coming up in the high minors that project to be at least as good as Shaun Marcum (Drew Hutchinson, Nestor Molina). There's a huge amount of pitching depth in the low minors, too, which could be used in trades. It's really amazing how far the system has come since JP left.

If the Jays plan to win in 2012, though, they'll need another top level starter along with Romero. There's been talk that Anthopoulos will go after Darvish (he was in Japan scouting him), but giving that guy Dice-K money scares the crap out of me. I suppose anything is better than the mega rich media corporation that owns the team not spending at all, though.

Seems crazy to me, too. Votto's going to free agency after 2013, but you might as well try to win with him in 2012. It's not like the NL Central isn't right there for the taking each year.

There are some bad GMs in this league and Anthopoulos has taken advantage of a few of them so far, so I wouldn't put it past him to do it again. I'd probably give any player in the Jays organization for Votto outside of Bautista, Lawrie, Escobar, and Romero.

Actually, it really hasn't been that great of a division. But the last 3 NL MVPs have come from there, and the teams tend to make some noise in the playoffs.

Thats what I meant really. The Cardinals dominated the division early in the 2000's and sorta sputtered late. But if they bring back Pujols and Waino is healthy, with the SP we potentially have coming up we are set up pretty good.

If Freese can stay healthy I think he has shown what he could do over the whole year as well.

There may be no more frustrating pitcher in baseball. He can just dominate the best lineups in the game seemingly at will, but has some of the worst blowups I've ever seen. As for closing, that's what some have been saying, but if Morrow ever gets his shit together mentally (and his #'s in line with his peripherals), you'll have a possible elite starter. Heck, he had a 3.64 FIP/3.53 xFIP this season. That's too valuable to waste on relieving, at least at this point.

Quote:

His problems seem mental to me, too. His value has taken a huge hit...and you can't really trade him now. Just have to hope he bounces back in the spring.

As much as I hate the gutless Zack Greinke, trading Drabek + others for him last season looks like it would have been the right call.

In the East, you generally have to win 95 games to make the playoffs. That wasn't the case this season due to the epic Sox choke, but normally, that's what you need. It doesn't take nearly as much in the Central normally, which makes me question why the Reds would trade him at all (and they likely won't). Still, if he's going anywhere, I think it will be to his hometown in Toronto. The Jays have a hole there and would love another Canadian to fill the infield.
