If that successful bunt had been a successful hit, we'd probably have the lead right now.

True.

But I think it was the right move.

Now if it happened with 2 outs, different story.

****.

So I guess Ned Yost is a genius?

Yup, he should manage the Cubs. :p

BigRedChief 04-26-2011 08:55 PM

Isn't that the 3rd time rasmus has fouled out on the left side behind 3rd base?

No, but he's a far better manager at this point than TLR.

BigRedChief 04-26-2011 08:57 PM

I'll take our bullpen over there bullpen as long as Franklin doesn't come in.

It was because of Tony a few weeks ago in SF that the Cards lived to see another inning by moving Craig in from the OF.

But it's also his fault that he hung onto Franklin to long as closer and misusing Bautista.

I'd still take LaRussa over Yost, though. Unless the Cards were a younger team, like the Royals.

Miller can't get anyone out anymore.

No it isn't.

If you don't put Albert in, you're going with Tyler Greene, who's just not a very good 'professional' hitter. He has some power, but he's not a guy that you can count on for a nice solid single.

With a man on 2b and 2 outs, a single gives you the lead. So you could hold onto Pujols there and hope he gives you a HR in the 9th. Ultimately the odds of that are somewhere around 1/17. Or, you can use him to PH, guarantee the intentional walk and get Colby Rasmus to the plate against a mediocre RH reliever.

Foregoing the 1/17 chance to have AP hit a HR in the 9th is worth the massive upgrade from a RH hitting Tyler Greene to a LH hitting Colby Rasmus (who has been the 2nd best hitter on the squad thus far this season).

It was an aggressive, unconventional use of his primary bench weapon. I loved the move. At worst, it was arguable but it was by no means stupid.

Quite a few Cardinals RP can't get anyone out either.

ROFLHall of famer vs. A guy that will be fired within 4 years.

Will wonders never cease - Trevor Miller failed again.

He sucks as badly as Franklin, just in a less high-profile role.
