No it isn't.
If you don't put Albert in, you're going with Tyler Greene, who's just not a very good 'professional' hitter. He has some power, but he's not a guy that you can count on for a nice solid single.
With a man on 2b and 2 outs, a single gives you the lead. So you could hold onto Pujols there and hope he gives you a HR in the 9th. Ultimately the odds of that are somewhere around 1/17. Or, you can use him to PH, guarantee the intentional walk and get Colby Rasmus to the plate against a mediocre RH reliever.
Foregoing the 1/17 chance to have AP hit a HR in the 9th is worth the massive upgrade from a RH hitting Tyler Greene to a LH hitting Colby Rasmus (who has been the 2nd best hitter on the squad thus far this season).
It was an aggressive, unconventional use of his primary bench weapon. I loved the move. At worst, it was arguable but it was by no means stupid.
