It's awesome to see Memphis play up to their potential. The team playing tonight would beat anyone in the country.

tk13 03-28-2008 09:13 PM

Michigan State with a 3-0 run to pull back within 31. Calipari should be enraged.

First halves...

Memphis: 62% offense, 39% defense
Kansas: 59% offense, 27% defense

Memphis: 4/10 3s
Kansas: 7/14 3s

Memphis: 24 rebounds (7 offensive)
Kansas: 16 rebounds (1 offensive)

Memphis: up 30
Kansas: up 19

You're playing the #51 team in the RPI. We're playing the #15 team in the RPI.

What I love about this (and this isn't directed at you) is that some people are STILL saying, as we lead the RPI's 15th-best team in the country by 32, that it's just Michigan State playing bad basketball. We had nothing to do with Neitzel being unable to sneeze without one of our players shoving a hankie in his face, no way no how.

Yeah, everyone thought we had this game in the bag. Michigan State is so terrible...

Yeah, I know... Villanova was the last team in, and they're still overrated.

Yep, those on the outside always seem to have higher expectations than the actual fans. FFs and EEs don't matter to the anti-Jayhawk fans because if they don't win a NC every couple of years or get upset a couple of times they are full-time chokers. And as long as Memphis doesn't consistently make it to the FF or win a couple of NCs, the big conference traditionalists, haters, and idiots will always think of Memphis at best along the lines of a Gonzaga or Butler.

Wow, I hadn't seen that before. Not surprised they picked Memphis, because they're all over the other 1s, but I figured the majority would have said Pitt, Texas, or Stanford before MSU.

Uh, I didn't mean it that way UP. LMAO :p

tk13 03-28-2008 09:36 PM

You know, at this point... if Michigan State could just hold on and sustain... and get this down to 10 or under with about 5-6 minutes left...

You do realize though, that at this point a loss to Davidson on Sunday would be total disaster. If we win, the thought of KU as the annual choker dies down further, receding into just a bad memory of a nasty run during the 90's. If we go down, with THIS team, performing at such an elite focused level, to freakin Davidson? Oh man will the scorn ever rain down. It will be just as bad as it ever got during the lowest of Roy's tenure and the choke label will be firmly on for at least a few more years.

These kids dont care about any of that, they are focused on their own goals of winning as a team. If we fall to North Carolina, it would be unfortunate but we'd get over it, since we are basically 1a and 1b right now, but for Jayhawk nation a loss on Sunday is now simply unacceptable.

Davidson lost to UNC by 4, Duke by 6, and UCLA by 12 (they were up 4 at halftime) back in November and December. Those games don't matter until they start beating the 2 and 3 seeds in March. You might be right though.. last night during the Kansas/Villanova highlights they had a small stat at the bottom of the screen that read "Self: 3rd Elite Eight in 5 years at Kansas". A couple of minutes later they had video highlights of Bucknell and Bradley, because that's what matters.

I understand what you're saying... Kansas went through the highest available seeds before losing to Maryland in the FF several years ago, they did it the next year before Marquette and Syracuse, and they had to do it last year against mind-numbing teams like SIU and UCLA. So, when the opportunity is there to go 16-8-12-10 to the Final Four, you have to win.

However, it goes back to the discussion in the Kansas/Villanova thread... the tournament can be a real bitch sometimes.
