Back in the summer of 2020, when gas was still cheap, I bought a used 2017 Toyota Prius with 42K miles for about $17K. It wasn't my first choice in the long list of vehicles I was considering, but I could at least justify it since I had to drive over 50 miles a day round trip to and from work.

What I really wanted was a good, slightly used 4x4 truck. I spent the previous couple of years looking for the right deal, but never could find what I wanted.

The Prius now has 74K miles, and if you were to find a similar one at any dealer within 200 miles of KC, it would cost at least $20K. Probably closer to $22K.

I never thought I'd be happy that I bought a Prius, but I am now since prices are out of control.

I've had 2 Prius in the last 10 years, first one I gave to my son and I couldn't be happier. Great cars, knock on wood.

The plural of Prius is Prii. Unless purposefully Anglicized... words ending in us are pluralized with an I.

Yeah not two weeks tho little different

We had a 30¢ cost increase at the pump a couple days ago. We went from $3.49 to $3.79 around Wichita Ks.

I'm sure it's buried in this thread somewhere, but a little history reminder and perspective:

Crude topped out at about $142/barrel in July of 2008. Gasoline hit about $4.11/gallon.

I think we will be looking at that price as a bargain, in the near future. I have no idea where the price is going to top out this go around per barrel. $170, $180, $190, $200? Who knows, but it's going to be ugly.

JP Morgan thinks it'll hit $185/barrel.

I don't know what that translates to dollars/gallon.
